Spaziosa villetta indipendente dell'isola di Lewis in posizione tranquilla con vista sul lago

Villetta trilocale situata a pochi metri dalla riva del Loch Carloway (Sea loch). Recentemente rinnovato, si trova in una posizione perfetta sulla costa occidentale dell'isola per visitare siti storici come Callanish Standing Stones e Carloway Broch. Nel villaggio si trovano anche le Case Nere Garenin di fama mondiale che danno un'indicazione di come vivevano gli isolani nei tempi passati. Ci sono due fantastiche spiagge (Dalmore e Dalbeg) in 5 minuti di auto e alcune meravigliose passeggiate interne e costiere accessibili dalla proprietà. Ci sono molti laghi di trota nella località e pesca al salmone sul fiume Carloway (permessi disponibili dal Carloway Angling Club). La pesca al mare, la pesca in spiaggia e la pesca al molo sono anche attività popolari.

La proprietà è stata recentemente rinnovata con una nuova cucina, bagno, nuovi pavimenti in legno e tappeti in tutto. Ci sono 2 camere matrimoniali, una con un letto matrimoniale e l'altra con due letti singoli. Una terza camera ha letti a castello ideali per i bambini. Una culla è inoltre disponibile.

Ci sono canne da pesca per l'uso, mobili da spiaggia e numerosi giocattoli per bambini custoditi nel garage indipendente. Wi-Fi è inoltre disponibile

Gli ospiti avranno pieno accesso a tutte le parti della proprietà ad eccezione di un armadio chiuso nella camera da letto a castello.

Altre cose da notare

Al momento della prenotazione è essenziale verificare che se si sta portando una macchina che ci sia spazio sul traghetto come in estate tendono ad essere ben prenotati.

Non ci sono negozi o distributori di benzina a Carloway. I più vicini sono a Barvas o Cameron Terrace / Leurbost, dove è possibile ottenere una buona selezione di cibo, vini e liquori ed entrambi
benzina / diesel. Trasportano anche una vasta gamma di altri beni, dai repellenti per moscerini. Ci sono canne da pesca per l'uso, mobili da spiaggia e numerosi giocattoli per bambini custoditi nel garage indipendente. Wi-Fi è inoltre disponibile e attrezzi da pesca per attrezzature da surf (Barvas). A Stornoway ci sono due supermercati: Tesco vicino al terminal dei traghetti e Coop sulla strada per la città verso il lato ovest.

Il Doune Braes Hotel offre pasti (meglio prenotare) e cibo da asporto. Dispone di bar e lounge. Forty North (Bragar) fa lo stesso, ma è necessario preordinare da asporto e raccogliere. I menu per Doune Braes e Forty North si trovano nella cartella ma potrebbero essere soggetti a modifiche.

Naturalmente c'è una vasta scelta di ristoranti a Stornoway - An Lanntair ha uno chef di classe a Kenny Mackay e si consiglia Digby Chick. Non andare oltre il negozio di fish and chips di Cameron senza assaggiare!

Una macchina è essenziale

Traghetto:
La maggior parte delle persone viaggia a Lewis via mare usando Caledonian McBrayne. Offrono servizi due volte al giorno da Ullapool a Stornoway o, in alternativa, effettuano un traghetto più breve tra Uig (Isola di Skye) e Tarbert (Harris). Le tariffe dei traghetti sono davvero competitive rispetto al volo e al noleggio di un'auto.

Carloway dista circa 24 miglia da Stornoway e circa 45 miglia da Tarbert. Seguire le indicazioni per Càrlabhagh (Carloway) sulla A858. Ricorda di cercare il nome gaelico sui segnali stradali. Quando si raggiunge Carloway si supera l'unico cavalcavia nelle isole occidentali e si gira a sinistra in direzione del molo con l'indicazione Cidhe Càrlabhagh. Seguire la strada a destra ed è l'ultima casa a destra con una caratteristica porta da garage rossa

L'unico aeroporto dell'isola è a Stornoway. Flybe opera voli giornalieri per Stornoway da Inverness, Glasgow ed Edimburgo. Eastern Airways opera voli, dal lunedì al venerdì, per Stornoway da Aberdeen.

Wonderful little house in lovely location!

Kenny and Mairi did everything they could to make us feel welcome in their cottage. Lovely welcome gifts on arrival and some great books on walks on the island as well as wildlife were very helpful. The cottage is well located for exploring Lewis and Harris with some great points of interest in the near vicinity. The double bed was very comfortable and the towels luxurious! They had thought of everything. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Exactly what we hoped

We loved our stay here on Lewis. The house had everything you could need, the coziest kitchen, books and toys for the kids, beach towels, beach things, and the best part, the owners are so lovely and provided so much info on the area and their family history which made it really special. The house is in a beautiful spot and near to a very well stocked community supermarket.

A lovely, comfortable and well-equipped cottage at a beautiful location. Kenny and Mairi were very helpful. The community shop in Carloway was very convenient for groceries. Fantastic beaches are nearby and it is only a short drive to the Calanais Standing Stones. A great base to explore the Isle of Lewis.

A quaint cottage

The house was in a nice area near Carloway. You have views of the water from the front of the house. The instructions that were sent prior to arriving were very detailed. Being an older house and next to the sea, it is very understandable that we could smell a lot of mold in the house. It was so strong it made both of us feel unwell. If you are susceptible to mold, I would contact the owner to see what remedy that have done. We did not contact the owner about the issue during our 3 night stay as we know there was nothing they could do to fix it.

Very clean, perfectly appointed small cottage in quiet location. Close to the highway for access to elsewhere on the island. We came in late but had a very warm and nice welcom and good and helpful contact with the owner. The house was complete with everything you need, and for the first evening and morning there also was some food present. We had a stay of only 3 nights, but would have liked to stay longer. Wonderful cottage stay

Kenny and Mairi were fantastic at communicating and making sure we found Lithir with perfect directions. The home was better than we imagined and the children loved all the hidden gems of toys, games, puzzles, maps, books and more. The views were beautiful and the house so cosy. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Cosy stay overlooking the loch

What's not to like? A very comfortable cottage by the side of the loch in Carloway, We were all very comfortable and spoiled by the well-equipped kitchen, ideal for self-catering. Plenty of instruction books for those not familiar with induction hobs, lots of reading material about the locale, nice to have the well-stocked community shop nearby. A wonderful place to stay as a base for Lewis and Harris. Thank you!

Lithir - the perfect home from home

This was our second holiday at this cosy, homely cottage. Mairi is so thoughtful - everything was provided, and there was also a lovely welcome pack on our arrival. Beds are very comfortable, and this location is incredibly quiet, so you are guaranteed a perfect night's sleep. The wildlife on Lewis is amazing - this year we actually watched Black-throated Divers courting on the loch whilst sat at the dining table, and then 3 Cuckoos in a chase around the trees in the front garden, plus Corncrakes calling at night. Amazing. This year we brought our kayaks, and I have to say that Lithir is about as good as it gets as a kayaking location. You can store your kayak in the garage on its trolley, just roll down the drive, then the slipway is about 30 metres along the road. You can then explore the inner loch if the weather's dodgy, otherwise paddle out beyond Carloway harbour and the world's your oyster. Also worth a mention is the local Carloway Community Shop and café. This is about 2 minutes away and provides pretty much everything you'll need, with very friendly and helpful staff, and saving you driving back to Stornoway for a groceries top-up. All in all, if you want Hebridean hospitality in the best location for exploring Lewis, come to Lithir.

Quiet and peaceful

The location of the cottage in Carloway is great for exploring the island of Lewis, it’s archeological sites, many walks and hikes. There is a well stocked shop in town for anything you need. The house is cozy and peaceful looking out on the loch in front. The kitchen has good supplies for cooking. It is the perfect place for rest and renewal in the beauty of the western isles, and also as a base for outdoor activities.

The cottage is perfectly situated for hiking and close to some of the best local attrations. The nearby store has everything you need and more allowing for easy grocery shopping. Peaceful Carloway haven

Lithir is an individual 50's bungalow in, for us, a very good location, with the loch immediately over the very quiet road, and the only sounds those of the local birdlife. The accommodation was practical and comfortable, and having use of the garage was very helpful, as we hired a kayak during our stay. The outlook from the bungalow was very scenic, with excellent views from 3 of the rooms. The opening of the new Carloway community shop, only 2 minute's drive away, was a major convenience, as it saved driving back to Stornoway for many daily essentials. The store is extremely well stocked, and I would highly recommend its patronage. We fell in love with Lewis - the coastal scenery is stunning, and the wildlife exceptional - we had very good views of otters, both British eagles, a pod of 8 Orcas, Minke Whales and very much more. All in all, we had a lovely stay here, and are very eager to return.

We had such an amazing time on the Isle of Lewis and renting this cottage greatly enhanced the experience. The family who owns this property were helpful, communicated promptly and the cottage itself was so comfortable and quaint. Added bonus, it seemed to be centrally located for what we wanted to do. A fabulous holiday

I'm so glad I found this house when searching for accommodation. From the outset, communication with Mairi & Kenny was spot on. As soon as you enter the house, you can see it's well looked after & spotlessly clean. I found everything I needed in the lovely new kitchen. There was even an air fryer. There was a lovely welcome card, yummy nibbles and fresh flowers waiting for us. A nice touch. The bedrooms are a good size with plenty storage & hanging space for clothes. The beds are comfortable, the bedding soft, lovely soft bath towels and best of all, electric blankets! Carloway is well placed to tour the islands. The setting on the loch is stunning & the stars magical. I would, and have recommended to friends & family. We will definitely book again. Thanks Mairi & Kenny.
