The location was beautiful and my husband and I were excited to stay at a place with its own pool. Unfortunately, the host was not friendly or welcoming from the start and then accused us of lying when we had to leave 1-day early due to an infestation of bugs (large cockroaches, large ants, millipedes). I pointed out to the host that the screens on most of the doors/windows had various holes, but that was ignored and I was accused of leaving the screen doors open, even though we were diligent about closing them immediately upon entering/exiting. I also pointed out that the valance on the blinds broke off when I opened the blinds and then later was faulted for that, even though the blinds were old and loose. I was insulted via personal text messages and told I was a liar. The host was the actual liar and tried to gaslight me when I shared a photo of a large cockroach we caught in the room (one of several). He called the cockroach a beetle (a "Kona Cruiser") and said they were nothing to worry about. I have never been accused of lying or received rude messages from a host for simply pointing out needed repairs and an obvious bug problem. Also, the hosts left very religious media (dvds/books) in the room that were homophobic and intolerant of diverse beliefs. The place would be great with a different host and much-needed repairs. This stay really affected us mentally for some time afterwards and put a damper on our time in Hawaii. Guests beware.
