Tucked into the Dunes of Southern Shores, "Gypsea Rose" offers the best of everything! Step out and taste the salty air while you walk towards the gorgeous Atlantic Ocean on your private boardwalk to the beach. On those cooler nights, bring along a blanket so you can nestle yourself on the sand or take advantage of the dune top deck which offers built in seating, while you watch the dolphins play in water and listen to the waves roll in. This home is pet friendly, so your fur babies can join you on vacation too!

"Gypsea Rose" is a historical, classic, cottage featuring a hot tub and rec room for your enjoyment, as well as a gas grill and outdoor seating for those nights that you want to stay in! Take an early morning jog or leisurely walk along the paved bike paths to explore the nearby towns such as Duck and Southern Shores. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, or small family vacation, you will not regret staying at "Gypsea Rose" and we are certain this will become your home away from home!

  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Horrible and moldy. Infested with bugs and ants. You will probably wake up with them crawling on you like we did. Rusty outdated appliances, even something as simple as ping pong paddles weren’t replaced. Broken and old. You can’t set down food or a drink without ants getting in it in a second. It’s literally infested with them. I notified them of the issues 30 minutes after getting there and didn’t hear anything back for 3 or 4 days and that’s only because I kept reaching out. Currently waiting from them to view my report and try to get at least partially reimbursed for this nightmare of a vacation home. Nothing good about it other than the location. DO NOT STAY HERE. We will be posting about our experience on every platform we can until we hear something back. Didn’t even feel like vacation coming home to this dump every day. So sad.

Cute place

I love the unique layout of the house, it fit our needs perfectly. Getting to just walk out the door and the beach is right there was a huge plus. We loved sitting on the porch in the evenings having a drink to the sound of the waves rolling in. We did notice the sliding door handle was broken and we couldn’t find a measuring cup. The dryer also had some kind of residue inside and it did get on a piece of clothing but didn’t ruin anything else thankfully. Overall I would definitely stay again in the future.

Great house and location

This house is spacious and the best part is that it is only a few steps from the beach. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend this beach home to anyone coming to the Outer Banks.

Vintage Charm

Vintage property oozing with charm. Close beachfront location cannot be beat. Well air-conditioned and reasonably clean. Nonfunctional in-kitchen microwave, however working unit provided in adjacent room. Otherwise, all appliances in working order. Cozy and comfortable. My family (including young infant!) loved our stay and would definitely return.

Overall great experience

The house is well represented in the online listing/photos. It is simple, no-frills, and dated but very comfortable, family friendly, and fun, with a fabulous deck, coffee station, windows overlooking the ocean, hot tub, and beachfront location that is unbeatable. The only issues we had were the slightly run down nature of the house (given the VERY high cost for the week we stayed -- and we stay at 5 star hotels quite often) and that the dryer was broken (per the agency) for the entire stay. This was only problematic for us since we packed light, planning to use the laundry at the house. All that said, we would go back to this place in a heartbeat -- super fun place and on the beach -- but would not pay the same rate for it.

Working with Beach Realty is difficult!

The house was great and everything reported in the listing. However, from the first day we had no hot water. I was dealing with Beach realty who kept saying someone would be there "any minute now". However, 3 hours went by and telephoned and no one seemed to know about the request. More phone calls, no one calls you back to say someone is dispatched (you get the picture). Then, they say they will credit me $200 for my hassling with this. Of course we are 2 weeks past our departure and still no credit on the account. Arggggh! i will have to call Beach Realty again. So annoying.

Spring break was wonderful

The house has an amazing location, right on the beach with its own stairs from the house. It's a short drive to Duck or Kill Devil Hills and lots of great food options nearby. The house has lots of space for everyone to spread out and hang out. The bathrooms are dated, but overall, such a great beach house!
