“I booked a trip six weeks in advance to go to Michigan- I was aware of the no refund policy. However over a month before the trip, I tried to cancel due to an illness/ hospitalization in my extended family. I tried cancelling and getting a refund, and the hotel wouldn’t refund with over a months advance notice. “We had to leave and stay at a different hotel due to the unsanitary conditions at Whitehall Cottages.
The bed had dirt and hair on the sheets and all around the mattress.
There’s no staff on the property and the owner didn’t respond back until later in the evening after we were already checked in to a different hotel.
When I asked for a refund I was told he couldn’t do it because we booked through Expedia…”

“Stayed for two nights for college tours with my son. Location is great as everything is within 30 mins. The beach is only 10 mins away. The property is definitely older. Dirty Fish tank in lobby gives you some insight on what to expect moving forward at time of check in. No elevator but we were able to hike our luggage upstairs. Not a deal breaker.
