While our list is longer, this will focus on 3 main points in order of severity. First the unit is advertised as a "1 bedroom". The unit we were provided was not a 1 bedroom as recognized under California law but rather a studio unit. "Under California law and the California Residential Code (CRC), a room intended to be used as a bedroom must have a door for privacy and access, as well a separate means of emergency egress (typically a window)." Our unit had no separate bedroom, had no bedroom door, and in fact, it had no complete wall separating one area from the other. Our 8' tall room had a partial 4' wall with just enough room for a couch. Thus, the only privacy in the rooms AND FROM THE STREET was to be had was in the bathroom. In the end, we were told something that the renter knew was not true. In life it that called a lie. In law, it is called fraud. Second, and one which is equally important, is the fact that the other area had no shade to keep out daylight but also privacy from the street below. It appeared that the shade was broken and left in the closet for us to see. As a result, when the sun came up at 6:30am, so did we. Sleep is what one needs after a long day. Not to be awakend by the sun. Because of the lack of shade there was no privacy in the unit itself. Just the bathroom. Finally, the shower wall was covered in mold creating a health risk to its users. We asked for compensation and received silence. I do not recommend that anyone rent from these owners.
