“Hotelanlage ist schön. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Außer an der Rezeption wurde man ignoriert als man als voll zahlender Gast auf einem Sofa schlafen sollte. Im Kids Club war gelegentlich jemand da, kam man aber mit einem Kind wurde sich nicht gekümmert. Das Essen war schlecht. Viel frittiertes, viel Reis, wenig Auswahl. Wir haben kaum etwas gegessen. “It was the most unpleasant stay in Sri Lanka and in general in several years traveling in Asia. The receptionist was totally unfriendly, just interested in getting us out out the hotel....and we understood why: some rooms were under renovation, so there was noise from early in the morning through the day. “Rooms are small, half the size of other 5 star hotels. Bathroom is tiny, hardly any space. Hot water tends to run out after 10 minutes. Very unusual for a hotel of this reputation. Expedia also promised a $50 voucher for VIP access when I purchased the room. The hotel said this was not communicated to them, and Expedia said they cannot honour after I arrived at the hotel. “This was our 2nd stay at the Asian Jewel. Our return was based on our previous experience which was lovely staff, good food, clean and spacious room. The location is out of town but was easy/cheap to get tuk tuks and being situated next to the lagoon allowed us to see lots of beautiful birds from our balcony. Would recommend and hope to return again.”
