This historic cottage known as the Alston-Charlotte dates back to the mid 1700's and it is one of ten oldest existing homes in Historic Downtown New Bern. This rare cottage style home is brimming with character and charm. The whimsical backyard is perfect for relaxing complete with stone walls to offer privacy and off street parking. You will be in the heart of thriving Historic Downtown New Bern, a very short walk to shopping, restaurants, nightlife, and more! River tours, museums and historic walking tours await in New Bern or take a short 35 minute drive and see the Emerald Isle.

We love old homes. In fact, we try to choose homes in historic towns. The Historic Alston-Charlotte Cottage has it all! Located within walking distance of restaurants and shopping. Private gated parking in the rear and in front of the home. The owners have thought of everything. The creative use of space and beautiful decorating make for an enjoyable stay. The hosts were Amazing! Instant communication! Very helpful and responsive. We also loved Historic Downtown New Bern. We will return and we will definitely stay at The Historic Alston-Charlotte Cottage!

The house was so charming and kept its history alive in so many ways! The kitchen and bathrooms were fully stocked, more than you could even need! It was very clean and very comfortable. Right in the heart of downtown too! We had a wonderful time. The host was quick to respond to questions and offered a book with suggestions on things to do. Thanks so much for making our stay so special.

We enjoyed our stay so much. The hosts were most accommodating and checked with us throughout our stay to make sure that all was well. This home is cozy, charming and within walking distance of Tryon Palace, New Bern Trolley stop, historic homes, museums, shops and restaurants. The perfect home away from home. Very pet friendly and accommodating with everything you could imagine to keep your pet comfortable. Thank you for a wonderful experience and great memories to take home with us.

This place is a gem. All the rooms were immaculately clean and sparkling. I had seamless connectivity with the Wi-Fi. The bed was so comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with everything and more. The host was remarkably responsive and accommodating. Everything is within walking distance; didn't need my car at all during those three days. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Home away from Home

This property has everything we wanted in a home. Private entrance, enclosed backyard for our frenchie, patio area with grill. The inside is roomy, beautifully decorated and the bed is very comfortable. Washer, dryer, dishwasher….the list goes on and on. Walking distance to the palace, gift shops, eateries. Walks along the boardwalk is so relaxing and picturesque. Will definitely come back again. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Luxury accommodation at mid-range price point

Miraculous renovation of this 1769 cottage adds modern amenities while maintaining historic vibe. Extremely thoughtful design - you'll want for nothing. Everything is super clean and in like new condition. Hosts super responsive. Only a couple blocks from Tryon Palace and 5 block walk to river or shopping along historic street. Coffee shop, wine bar, and soul food take out sll within two blocks. Out preferred accommodation for future trips to New Bern.

Everything was perfect

House is meticulously maintained. Every detail was accounted for, plenty of everything (dishes, cookware, blankets, toiletries, water). The check in was easy and is an easy 5 star review to give. Good feel to the house! Will definitely stay here again

Cute and well done!

The house is perfect for a couple or small family. Amenities are great and the house is in excellent condition. It was everything we were looking for...walkable to downtown and fenced in yard for fur babies. Coffee shop and great restaurant a block away. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautifully decorated and super clean. Impeccable attention to details that make a guest feel welcome. Lovely back deck for drinking morning coffee. Within a few blocks from great restaurants that we walked to every night. Would stay here again.

Perfect Storybook Cottage

This restored cottage is very well restored and more importantly while maintaining charm, is modern in execution. Very walkable neighborhood and close to downtown. I parked my car and did not need to use it again until I left. The home is as described and all amenities worked well. The owner is vey easy to work with and welcoming.

July 4th celebration

First, the home was just as described and it is easy to understand why it has received high reviews from other guests. We can confirm and echo the 👍👍👍👍👍 for this property. Next, it was our 1st trip to New Bern. If you have not visited, give it a try. It is a historical city with a lot of great restaurants and breweries. And now you know where to stay.

Adorable Cottage

This wonderful cottage was everything we were looking for when dropping our children off at Camp. Tasteful and thoughtful decor and amenities. Great private backyard and we really enjoyed the bikes and biking to downtown New Bern. Beautifully restored piece of local history and close to everything! Host was responsive and accommodating.

Wonderful house, great location, responsive host

My wife, our puppy and I stayed for three nights. The house was clean and everything we hoped for. The location was close to downtown and many cool historic houses & sites. The host was attentive and responsive.
