There's a specific moment when you stop checking your phone.
It usually happens when you climb the spiral staircase and
find yourself standing in front of panoramic windows framing
nothing but olive trees stretching toward the Calabrian hills.
THE SPACE
The Treehouse is the most private and premium accommodation
at Golden Camp — the only one with a fully private en-suite
bathroom. Built on stilts among centuries-old olive trees,
it sits above the rest of the property with views over the
grove and, on clear days, toward the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia.
Inside, the space is carefully curated: a double bed dressed
in quality linens, a large handcrafted macramé piece covering
the entire back wall, artisan lamps, boho textiles, and
panoramic windows on three sides that make the olive trees
feel like wallpaper. A surfboard leaning against the wall
reminds you the sea is just 15 minutes away.
Outside, a private terrace with a thatched parasol is the
right place to have your morning coffee while the grove wakes
up. The spiral staircase that gets you there is part of the
experience.
THE SHOWER
The outdoor shower is consistently what guests mention most
in their reviews — and once you've used it, you'll understand
why. It's fully private, set under an ancient olive tree, on
a hand-laid mosaic pebble floor with intricate circular
patterns. Hot water, complete privacy, ferns and olive
branches overhead. It is unlike any shower you've had before.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Breakfast is prepared and served every morning. All guests
have access to the shared outdoor wood-fired kitchen, the
seasonal summer pool, the bonfire pit area, the BBQ area,
and the garden and relaxation spaces throughout the property.
Free on-site parking is available.
In the evenings, a local produce tasting (taglieri and
regional specialties) can be arranged on request for
in-house guests — contact the property directly for
availability and details.
Firewood for the bonfire and BBQ is available as an extra
(€5 per basket).
BRUNELLO & OLIVIA
Golden Camp is also home to two resident donkeys — Brunello
and Olivia — who roam the property with complete confidence
that they own the place. Meeting them tends to be an
unexpected highlight, especially for families.
THE AREA — FALERNA & SURROUNDINGS
Golden Camp sits on the Riviera dei Tramonti — named after
its sunsets, which face the Aeolian Islands and, on clear
evenings, reveal the silhouette of Stromboli. This stretch
of the Tyrrhenian coast is one of the least-known and most
rewarding parts of southern Italy.
BEACH & COAST (15 min)
The beaches of Falerna and Gizzeria run along a wide, clean
shoreline with clear water. Gizzeria is particularly known
as one of Italy's best kite surfing spots, with consistent
winds and a lively beach scene. Torre Lupo — a medieval
coastal watchtower — stands at the edge of one of the most
scenic stretches of coastline in the area and is worth a
short walk.
MOUNTAINS & NATURE (10 min)
Monte Mancuso and the Fiume Griffo valley offer easy hiking
through chestnut and oak forest, river walks, and picnic
spots at altitude. The air is genuinely cooler than the
coast — a welcome contrast after a beach morning.
THERMAL BATHS (20 min)
Le Terme di Caronte in Lamezia Terme are natural sulphurous
thermal springs known since ancient Roman times. An easy
half-day trip, particularly off-season.
PIZZO CALABRO (30 min)
A hilltop fishing town with an extraordinary Norman castle
overlooking the sea, a historic centre worth walking slowly,
and — most importantly — the home of tartufo di Pizzo, one
of the most famous ice cream desserts in southern Italy.
Worth going for the gelato alone.
TROPEA (50 min)
The most photographed town in Calabria: red onions, sea
capers, a clifftop cathedral, and a beach considered among
the best in Italy. Busy in high season but unmissable.
AMANTEA (30 min north)
A quieter alternative to Tropea: Arab-Norman architecture,
a well-preserved historic centre, and excellent seafood
restaurants on the waterfront.
LAMEZIA TERME (30 min)
The local hub for shopping, transport, and services. The
Castello Normanno-Svevo di Nicastro dominates the skyline
and is worth a visit for history enthusiasts. The airport
is here — making arrivals and departures genuinely easy.
CALABRIA AS A BASE
The property sits at the geographic centre of Calabria,
making it one of the best-positioned bases for exploring
the region. Within 60–90 minutes you can reach the Sila
national park plateau, the Costa degli Dei, the Aspromonte
mountains, and the Strait of Messina with views to Sicily.
