Better than pictured!
I booked this home for my family who were coming into town for my wedding. They said the photos did not do it justice! They felt very at home here. Margaret was also very sweet and helpful, and answered all my questions very quickly!

Quiet and charming
The property was quiet and charming. The hosts were very accommodating and the provided coffee, creamer, banana bread and eggs were great. If you are looking for a peaceful place away from the hustle and bustle this is for you. The brewery in town has a nice selection of food and it’s a quick ride.

Perfect location, size and super clean
This was the perfect getaway home for our family. Our toddler loved exploring the fields, and watching the train from across the road. Everything was extremely clean, and the owners were very communicative.

Fall Foliage Trip
We were very delighted with the property at Railway Rest. The accommodations were perfect for my husband and I and our friends that we were hosting from England. We really appreciated the owner’s personal touches of fresh eggs and homemade bread. The location was super convenient to traveling from the Blue Ridge Parkway and into Black Mountain! We will definitely stay there again! Thanks, David, for the recommendation to visit Gogo’s right down the road for their homemade cinnamon rolls. They did not disappoint!!

Birthday Get Away
Really enjoyed our relaxing stay at Railway Rest. House was cozy and clean. The hosts left us farm fresh eggs and baked apple bread. Wish we were staying longer than a weekend. Definitely hope to stay there again! Highly recommended!

The gift of hospitality
I felt like my sister and I were staying at the home of a friend. Everything was fresh, clean, and prepared with thoughtfulness! Old Fort is quiet and peaceful, and we enjoyed visiting nearby Black Mountain. The cottage was heavenly. From the magazines to the ceilling fans, from the comfy bedding to the porch swing, we loved this place. Easy to get to, great communication from hosts. They have the gift of hospitality!

Perfect Getaway
This home is quiet, clean and was perfectly suited for our family of three to use as a base for exploring Asheville and surrounding areas, breweries, and Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway's hikes and amazing views. We ate the homemade banana bread for breakfast everyday, and all the personal touches were noted, like the fire pit, basket of outdoor toys, and kid dishes. There are helpful signs posted to help you operate everything, and plenty of recommendations and suggested materials for reviewing to help plan your stay. The hosts were very responsive, but we didn't have any questions once we got there as everything is properly explained. Hope to come back next year!

Restorative Rest
The "Railway Rest" was tranquil beyond description, all of our expectations were met, with the exception of seeing a bear or a copperhead. But all jest aside, we will anticipate securing this place again if we're ever in your neck of the woods. Thank you to David and Margaret for allowing us to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Railway respite
This was our second time staying at Railway Rest. It's a peaceful, clean, quiet getaway only a short distance from Old Fort. Margaret and David are fabulous hosts and made us feel so welcome. Very enjoyable stay!

This is a great place to stay. The home has everything you would need. It is very neat and clean and the beds are Very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations. Serene Setting and Lovely Place
Railway Rest was looking so pretty during my April stay, and all of the plantings were in full bloom. The house is cozy and very comfortable with thoughtful touches like throw blankets and plenty of towels. Margaret and David had seen to any wish I may have had, and stocked the kitchen for breakfast as well as provided prompt communication. The only thing I would have wished for is to stay longer!

Mountain retreat
Loved staying at Railway Rest. House had everything you would need. There is so much to explore and then come back to relax. Master bedroom bed is so comfy. A train goes slowly by in morning and evening is so neat. There is yummy homemade banana bread made by Margaret waiting for you when you arrive. The Black Mountain coffee is great. In the frig are eggs, butter and creamer. Thank you Margaret and David for being the perfect hosts. We will definitely be back.

Clean, comfortable, perfect home
This clean, comfortable rental home was the perfect location to visit our family in Old Fort and to visit many other beautiful surrounding towns. The home is spotless, it is stocked with everything you need to prepare meals, the beds are comfy, the porch has a lovely swing and table and chairs. It has the biggest yard of any rental we have visited. We could not have been more pleased with our stay at this perfect location in the town of Old Fort! Thank you to the hosts for providing not only a cozy, comfortable home but also for the wonderful hospitality. We hope to stay again someday in the near future.

Beautiful stay
We had the pleasure of staying at Margaret & David’s cottage. First off, it is located in the quaint town of Old Fort, adjacent to Asheville & Black Mountain. Centrally located to great restaurants, breweries, shopping and more. We were greeted by David, who provided a quick tour and provided us with home baked banana bread, fresh eggs and all the conveniences of home. We made s’mores in the backyard, hiked and played board games. Biltmore Estates is nearby and the experience was beautiful. Black mountain is very entertaining as well. Nothing compares to the care that David and Margaret have put into making sure that their guests are comfortable. We treated their home as our own and look forward to our next visit.

What a treasure!
This place was wonderful, but the accomodations from the hosts were the real star of our stay. The fresh made banana bread and delicious local coffee was an excellent beginning to each morning as we sat down and enjoyed the beautiful view. There is no way that this was our last time staying at the Railway Rest! Thanks David & Margaret!

Relaxing Stay at Railroad Rest
This house was just what we needed for our mountain getaway. It was close enough to each of the places we wished to visit such as Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell, as well as numerous waterfalls. Also enjoyed the restaurants that were recommended like the Blue Ridge Biscuit Company, Hillman Beer, and cinnamon rolls from Gogo’s. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect Getaway
We could not have been more pleased with our stay. My mother and I attended a family reunion in the area. We searched for a property with easy access, no stairs, no slope, no narrow or rocky pathways and plenty of lighting. Safety is very important to us and this property delivered and was exactly how it was described and had extra's that made our stay even better. The owners went above and beyond to make us comfortable. They have coffee, sugar, creamer, a selection of juice, fresh eggs, butter and homemade bread waiting for each guest so you have essentials for breakfast if you don't have time to shop for food the first night. The kitchen has all the essentials and more spices, condiments, salad dressing, paper goods, foil, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, etc. We were very comfortable and the beds were of high quality (something that is always an unknown). There was plenty of light including street lights and it was very easy to find and close to town but still private. The owners took care of an unexpected issue that they did not have to do and we are very appreciative. We did not have time to enjoy the fire pit, games, books, magazines and movies provided. I would love to stay again and highly recommend this home.

Cozy comforts of home
We ran away to the Railway Rest last weekend with no other plans than to be able to sleep in! But Margaret and David left us homemade Banana Nut bread with butter and a half dozen fresh eggs… so we couldn’t wait for breakfast Saturday morning… it was delicious! Their little home was welcoming and clean and very comfortable. You don’t even need to bring your toothbrush! The location was down a fairly private road but just a couple minutes from the Main Street where the shops and cafes and brewery’s are. We hope to be back to do more sight-seeing and maybe some sleeping-in too!

Great home base for Adventures
This property was so nice and clean and comfortable. They have thought of all the details you could need. And even greeted us with fresh banana bread and eggs! There was wood for the fire pit and we enjoyed building a fire. We spent a day in Asheville but then spent two days hiking within driving distance to Old Fort (Linville Falls and Mount Mitchell.) Thank you Margaret and David for everything we Can’t recommend it enough!

Exceeded expectations!!!!
This is the sweetest and most comfortable place I’ve stayed at. And I travel. It just gives a feeling of being home. Kind of vintage, updated, step back in time. The place was immaculate clean and the host met us at the door. A very personal touch. The location is beautiful. In its own little place but close to Black Mt and Asheville. The town itself is quaint and has some lovely local places to get coffee, ice cream, and food. Highly recommend. Will be returning!

A very helpful host
Before we even got to the property, we had an issue caused by our airline; our host was very accommodating and helped us to get past it. We (accidentally) caused a couple other issues, which Margaret went above and beyond to help us to resolve. When we arrived at the property, Margaret had left us home baked banana bread which was delicious. There were also fresh eggs and some other kitchen essentials like butter. That we made good use of (some of the eggs made an excellent omelet). The house was clean and nice. The beds were comfortable. It is close enough to Asheville that it is not too inconvenient to get into town for the attractions there (such as the Biltmore - excellent) and also not too far from the mountains with great hiking and waterfalls. The only problem with our stay was that it wasn't long enough. I'd have loved to stay a few more days, but I only have so much vacation!

Southern hospitality at its finest
This is the best VRBO I've ever stayed in. Numerous special hospitality touches - fancy soap, a very well-equipped kitchen stocked with food and drinks, a water filter, laundry detergent, local menus, and a binder of things to do - they've thought of everything. The cabin was immaculate. We enjoyed meeting our host when we arrived - he's a very personable guy. Be sure to treat yourself to cinnamon rolls from GoGo's in Old Fort, NC. They're the best I've ever tasted. There's a menu in the kitchen for you to decide on your favorite variety. Hope to visit again.

Perfect quaint getaway
This property was just as described and if we come back to the area, WILL be staying again! Our hosts were BEYOND amazing, leaving us fresh eggs and homemade banana bread. She left us lists of things to do, places to order and everything was SO clean and adorable. We had the best time sitting by the fire pit and sipping our morning coffee listening to the birds. We have a one year old and she loved playing out in the open field area. Cannot praise this cute home enough! Thank you for a great experience! (:

Amazing experience
We had an amazing experience at railway rest! The communication was amazing and the hosts truly thought of every detail down to homemade bread and fresh eggs...even apple juice for the kiddos. They were kind and even accommodated a last minute request for us to extend our stay. We truly couldn't be happier with our experience.

Nice quant home
The house was perfect for our long weekend trip. Me and 2 friends stayed at Railway Rest because we wanted to see a little bit of the country side, hike some popular trails and still be close enough to Asheville to go shopping and get dinner. The house was in the perfect location, quiet and very clean.

Charming Country Cottage
My husband and I checked into this wonderful home. The property was clean, organized, and beautifully decorated. The bed was comfortable and the linens were freshly cleaned. The living room included a comfortable couch and nice TV with live cable with several channels. The backyard included a fire pit for a nice spring night. Overall, wonderful stay.

Wonderful Stay, Even Better Hosts!
The property was lovely, especially with all the little extra touches by the host - farm fresh eggs, a delicious loaf of banana nut bread, local notations flagged in North Carolina magazines, and extra hygiene products in the bathroom. The host was quick to respond via text. We even had car trouble on our last day, and one of the hosts came by within 10 minutes to jump our car. Would definitely recommend this to others as a place to stay.

Quiet place to rest
We were in the area for a VBS Preview event at Ridgecrest. We pretty much just slept at the property as we were rather busy at the conference. The Railway Rest was a nice clean, quiet place to relax after a day at a very full day. I was initially concerned about the railway part. The tracks are right across the street, and I was worried about trains running all night. Ended up being nothing. Two trains went by while we were there, once about 8:00 AM, the other just before midnight. The late one didn't wake my wife. I was up reading, and it wasn't disturbing at all. They didn't run their horn and it just sounded like traffic. Overall, the place was clean and comfortable. I thought having coffee, homemade banana bread, eggs, and milk was a nice touch. It was nice not having to find a grocery store. The coffee, eggs and milk all appeared to be locally sourced. I ordered some of the coffee online (dynamiteroasting.com). We both agree that it would be great to come back in the summer when we weren't so busy and have a good look around the area. We both highly recommend staying at the Railway Rest.

Long Weekend
We booked a last-minute long weekend trip with our two kids, 12 and 10. This cute house was clean, well maintained and the owners are great. The smaller bedroom had a full/ queen size bed, but the room was large enough to place a twin blow up bed that we had brought for one of our kids. The house had plenty of towels and a nicely equipped kitchen to cook in including a crockpot. The house is seven miles from Black Mountain which has several dining and shopping options and is ~20 miles to Asheville.

We loved everything about this place. It’s location is wonderful. Seeing the occasional train go by across the road was nice. It didn’t disturb us in the least. The home was absolutely spotless. We had everything that we needed for our stay. The owners put so much thought into what would make for a comfortable stay. That attention to detail was obvious and it made for a great trip. The owners were also gracious and generous in providing morning goodies for our first morning there. No need to run to the store right away. Amazing! Lastly, if a comfortable bed is important to you, the queen bed will not disappoint. We highly recommended Railway Rest to anyone visiting the area.

Clean and cozy
We enjoyed our stay, even though it was a quick one! We had everything we needed at our fingertips, and our hosts were very accommodating! The extra care and special treats available to us were wonderful! Our kids enjoyed running around in the wide open space next door too! If we’re back in the area, we’ll plan to stay again. Thank you!

Charming, restful, Railway Rest
4th time staying at Railway Rest, Margaret and David the property owners are the best when it comes to accommodations, their thought for details is awesome. Never stayed at a rental that was so clean and eye appealing. We just love Railway Rest and Margaret and David.

Charming cottage and great location.
The hostess was very warm and welcoming. The cottage location was close enough to be convenient to many things but quiet enough to relax. It has everything you need to be very comfortable. Will definitely be returning.
