Burton Lane, Oughtibridge Stiddy Cottage on the left ... Birtins House and Birtins Farm on the right ... on Burton Lane. Note the spellings of Birtin and Burton ... both correct but probably one was a misspelling at some stage.

Parish church of the Ascension, Church Street, Oughtibridge, South Yorkshire, seen from the north. Built in 1842 and consecrated in 1843 as a Chapel of Ease to Wadsley parish church. In 1939 it was made a separate parish and in 1974 was dedicated to the Ascension of Christ. Originally the turrets on either side each had a pinnacle, but many years ago (1920s?) one was blown off by a gale and the other was removed for safety. Visible on the right of the picture is a part of the original Oughtibridge Junior and Infants School.

A lovely premium room with a giant bed and views of the peace gardens. Clean, cosy and well equipped. Only two slight downsides - pillows were small and lumpy so not a comfortable sleep, and the windows didnt open; there is aircon but I like a bit of fresh air.

Pretty hotel. We had a wonderful stay in room 121. The suite had a beautiful 4 poster and the bathroom a huge roll top bath. We visited the spa and had an excellent breakfast. Lovely stay. Will return.
