We just stayed at the Poland Spring Resort "Lodge" for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend. I booked through Expedia and I specifically chose the Lodge "deluxe suite" because of the photo of the room, which showed a fairly spacious looking room with a queen bed that had a dining table with two chairs and a sofa and was described as having a golf course view, which I thought would be perfect for us. After we checked in and were given our room key, we proceeded to our room, which was on the second floor at the end of a long, dark hallway. The entire place is so run down, dismal, and in desperate need of updating. Don't get me wrong, we knew beforehand that this resort is very old and historic and we were NOT expecting a 5-star experience by any means, but we certainly were not expecting this level of dreariness. It felt more like a hostel or a cheap roadside motel and was very gloomy. The door on our room was so old that it had trouble opening and closing. You had to force it shut and really pull on it to open it as the latch would stick. The key also had a difficult time turning, probably from the lock being so worn and dated. We guessed that the door was likely from the 1960s, possibly even older.
Upon entering our room, I could immediately tell that the room we were given was NOT the room that was pictured on Expedia, not even close. It was significantly smaller, did not have the dining table and chairs, nor the sofa. The bed took up a majority of the room and we constantly had
