This "castle" property has a LOT of character. The house has some beautiful touches and finishes, and in its heyday it was likely stunning. It also has a TON of space -- more than any other VRBO property at which I've stayed.
Yet there were some big issues. First, the kitchen wasn't well stocked at all. We had difficulty finding a pot in which to boil water for pasta, and there wasn't a single cutting knife that wasn't a huge carving knife (or a chef's knife). The kitchen counter also had tiles that were missing.
Second, the property just wasn't prepped fully for our stay. One of the jacuzzis was full of ants, and the property owner/manager emailed me shortly after check-in to let me know about the possibility of chipmunks crawling around in the attic and making noise. There were also tree vines growing through one of the windows that prevented it from closing. I understand that flora and fauna can sometimes be unpredictable, but these shouldn't be problems I have to deal with on my vacation, and I shouldn't be losing sleep (as I did) from animals scratching around in the ceiling above me. The property owner/manager eventually sent a lovely repairman to resolve the problems, but again this is something that should have been resolved BEFORE my stay, especially at this price point.
Third, there was a distinct lack of instruction about the operation of the house. The property owner/manager posted a list of rules at the entryway, but there was no information at all, for example, about how to operate the two thermostats or which one controlled the upstairs or downstairs.
Fourth, I think the photos of the property are a bit inaccurate. My daughter, for example, was extremely upset at the lack of a basketball hoop shown in the photos.
Fifth. one of the aforementioned "rules" instituted by the property owner/manager is that renters shouldn't have Amazon packages delivered to the property. Yet the property owner/manager itself was having packages delivered to the property during our stay. I don't see why I should be responsible for picking up packages that aren't my own.
One final note -- the property owner/manager warned us in advance that the driveway is very, very steep. She is not kidding. I don't see how any car could possibly use the driveway.
In all, our stay was okay, but I had been expecting more given the price demanded for this place.
