Beautiful Italia Oasis

Our family had an amazing time at Villa Castello. Paola is a wonderful host and the property is absolutely amazing. The home had everything we needed and was steps away from the little town, a swimming area, and trails. We highly recommend if you are looking for the beauty of Cinque Terre without all the crowds!

Simply the most stunning views and rental property I've ever seen. You're staying at the base of a castle from the 1100's, with your own compound of stone & olive trees. 180degree views of the water, mountains, and town below. Covered walkway of stone pillars & grapevines. Amazing sunrise. Historic and charming town - it is somehow better than all the pictures.

Beautiful view

Pictures in the listing do not do justice to the view which is magical. The casteau is very clean and spacious with a well equipped kitchen for cooking in which we did most nights. The climb up wasn’t as bad as we feared and each day we spent in town where we ate lunch. Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful place to relax.

We stayed 7 nights in this beautiful spot that Paola has created. The climb is a little challenging at first but we quickly acclimated ourselves. Our goal was to find a place that was off the beaten path while still giving us access to adventure and Portovenere was the right place to stay as well as the accommodation Paola offers.

Heaven in Italy

Paola’s apartment was the most amazing place. I’ve never seen a view like this. The town is so charming and the garden area is like living on top of the world. Perfect place for exploring the Cinque Terre by boat while living in a delightful home away from the crowds. Hope to retire soon!

Wonderful location, perfect base for La Cinque Terre

We had a fabulous stay in this beautiful villa. The views were extraordinary, as it is right next to Doria Castle, facing the Gulf of Poets. Because of this villa, we decided to stay in Porto Venere, using it as our home base to visit all five towns of La Cinque Terre. We are so glad that we made this decision. Paola was such a delight, helping us move into the villa and getting settled, and then helping us depart and continue our travels. She is a marvelous host, and this was an perfect vacation.

Truly magical and breathtaking in every way! From the moment we arrived with Paola meeting us at the car park and escorting us through the charming medieval village, up the steep cliffside hill to our own slice of heaven at the foot of the castle, we felt as though we had been transported to another time and place more beautiful anything we could have imagined. The view of the Gulf of Poets was made more gorgeous by the storm clouds and sun bursting through. Paola was gracious in offering to extend our checkout time since it the weather had been inclement and in retrospect, we wish we would have stayed rather than leaving early to visit Cinque Terre. We all agreed PortaVenere was far more enchanting than any of the crowded villages of Cinque Terre.

Dream come true

We were blown away by this property. From the moment you turn the antique key to open the green garden door, you wonder how you are so lucky to be in this place. Yes, the steps are a challenge, but there are several paths you can take to make it easier. (backpack luggage) We walked them twice a day. The village is quaint and just far enough from the crowds. We booked “Crazyboats” for a sea view of Cinque terre. Breathtaking!! The beautiful view from this property will forever be etched in our minds. Thank you for hosting us Paola! We hope to return one day.

Incredible location

The location and views are out of this world. It is rare to find anywhere in Porto Venere with proper outdoor space or any garden let alone one like this with panoramic views across the whole harbour and the town. It is incredible, I'd happily sit for ages just watching the boats. If you are lucky enough to find this place available don't hesitate (but just be warned about the steep walk up - but it is so worth it though). The property is at the very top of everything hence the incredible views it has, it is totally unique and while the photos are good you need to see it for yourself to appreciate it. Very well appointed property as well. Paola is also a great host and helped us organise car parking and telling us some great things to do while here. Thanks you so much!

Unique, fantastic property

It’s truly a unique property - and I mean that in the best possible way. Great views, privacy, and lots of space.We booked this as a venue to see Cinque Terre, and we ended up enjoying Porto Venere more than the other locations. That said, it’s a short walk to the very to Cinque Terre, and we did all the hikes, and ferried back. Easy. Yes, as other reviews have mentioned - there’s stairs. Great some exercise. Pack light, with a backpack, and it’s no big deal. It gives you the privacy.The property is magnificent. Great views for the morning coffee, and later in the afternoon, sitting looking out with an Aperol Spritz while reading a book was absolutely incredible. Best compliment that I can give is that I can’t wait to return again.

Very special location

The location and view of the bay of poets is as unbelievable as it looks on the pics on VRBO. Truly a one of a kind experience staying at a villa carved into the walls of a medieval castle. So, yes it is perched at the top of a medieval village (steep climb with many cobblestone steps) but oh so worth the climb. The small village itself carved into the rocks is so well preserved and inviting. All the people in the shops and homes are happy and welcoming. The entire experience is like a dream. Paola, the villa owner is very accomodating and set up the villa nicely so it is modern inside and with airconditioning but the realy show stopper is sitting outside overlooking the bay of poets. Higly recommend this palce to anyone and everyone...even if you are concerned about the steps...It is worth it!

Spectacular villa attached to a castle at the top of an amazing village!

I could not more highly recommend this villa. It was absolutely spectacular. The grounds are incredible and the town is amazing. Paola was such a great host. She met us at the village and helped us up the hill to get to the Villa. Do not make the mistake we made and bring too many things. we way over packed and should’ve left things back in Florence and come packed much more lightly. This is a great destination to take the boat ride to Cinque Terre. I found Portovenere to be much more charming than the five towns. there are many spectacular restaurants so many I would’ve liked to had a chance to try, but we were only there two nights. we were touring the Vatican today in Rome and saw one of the ancient maps from the 1600s and actually saw our castle listed on it!

Una casa bella e ben attrezzata in un giardino incantevole con vista mozzafiato

La casa è bella e ben attrezzata. Raggiungibile per chiunque non abbia problemi di deambulazione. La posizione è unica: alle pendici del Castello, a fianco della bellissima chiesa di San Lorenzo. Il giardino tipicamente ligure a terrazze (con orto) è autentico (non ci si deve aspettare il prato all'inglese), estremamente ampio e aperto su una vista mozzafiato ed incantevole su tutto il golfo e l'isola di Palmaria. Silenzio, canto delle cicale e relax totale. Si stenta a credere che ci possa essere qualche cosa di meglio a Portovenere! La proprietaria è gentile e molto disponibile. In un caso in cui abbiamo avuto bisogno del suo aiuto è intervenuta immediatamente. Un'esperienza completamente positiva, di cui conserveremo un piacevolissimo ricordo.

unforgettable !

living in a dream for few hours will stay with you for a long time. the location and the view from the terrace made me stay open mouth for a lot. the house is clean and the owner delivered and excellent service. The long stair-walk to get the place (more than 150 steps) is a fatigue but staying there worths the effort and the price. Good, good, good indeed.

Fantastica!!

E’ stata una vacanza indimenticabile! La villa e’ immersa in un grande parco e costeggia i muri del Castello! La magia di questa villa è l’essere nel paese, a due passi dai ristoranti, i negozi e il porticciolo, ma racchiusi in un’ oasi privata. Il parco della villa si sviluppa in orizzontale, per cui da ogni punto c’è una vista a 180° sul golfo!!! Incredibile!!! Non si può immaginare se non si vede!!!! Tanto verde, tanti pergolati, tanti angolini attrezzati con panchine e lettini da sole. Il barbecue è moderno e praticissimo. L’angolo per pranzare all’esterno è comodo e naturalmente sempre con la vista indimenticabile. Le foto sono tutte realistiche, non si capisce però che una camera ha una porta finestra che si affaccia sul parco e sul mare!!! Un risveglio emozionante ogni mattina! E’ una ristrutturazione appena terminata ed è tutto nuovo e molto curato, anche i proprietari sono stati gentili e molto disponibili. E’ stata una vacanza unica, la ricorderemo. Io e mio marito abbiamo trascorso giorni romantici ma è perfetta anche per una famiglia e per il relax.

Excellent stay

Paola is an unbelievable host. She met us immediately upon arriving. The property is amazing. There are three ways to reach it - all on foot. We took the medium and hard ways and made it with relatively heavy suitcases. If you have trouble lifting your bag I would suggest taking the easy route. That said, everything was provided. The property has staggering views and is secluded. Portovenere is better, in my opinion, than any of the Cinque Terre as a base. We loved the experience and will be back.

Incredible stay!

This unique stay in porto venere is such an incredible place. I ditto so many of the previous reviews. The property is gorgeous with the most amazing views. It is a hike to get there and we traveled with back packs, but the hike was worth it, no question. We loved the town of porto venere as well. Our favorite restaurant was portivene. It is easy to take the ferry to the towns of cinque terre. And the local hiking is also great. Honestly this stay will be something we never forgot.

Tolle Lage

Paola hat uns sehr zuverlässig und freundlich in Empfang genommen und uns alles Wichtige im Haus gezeigt, wir fühlten uns sehr willkommen und wohl. Das Haus ist sehr ruhig gelegen mit einem riesigen Garten und top Aussicht.
