We had a bad experience at the Colonial due to poor service from the staff. At check in and throughout the stay the front desk wasnt very helpful when it came to resort/amenities information. On our second day we asked for breakfast room service, the breakfast was undercooked and the person who delivered the food was very rude and wouldnt respond to any questions we asked. Due the poor service we decided to try the beach buffet instead. At the buffet we were rushed by the staff so they could clear tables for the lunch buffet. At one point we were even directly told by one of the buffet staff to hurry up and leave, which we found very curious since there were other tables that were also still occupied by guests that were not being rushed by the buffet staff. Only difference we could see was that we were hispanic and the other tables weren't (guess they assumed we were locals and it was ok to treat us poorly). We didnt finish our food due to the bad service and went to guest services to give feedback. They offered to retrain the employees in question. Next day, we went for dinner at the buffet. We noticed the same buffet staff leering constantly at our table which made us very uncomfortable. We came to the Colonial for a relaxing vacation and instead had to deal with rude staff. This is a stark contrast to the neighboring Majestic resort where the staff make it a point to be accommodating and make guests feel welcome throughout their stay. Would not recommend Colonial.

We stayed at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana and overall found the experience disappointing. We prepaid airport transportation, but the taxi never arrived. We waited about 90 minutes before another ride was arranged. Check-in was also extremely slow—about 90 minutes—and we were told the room we booked was unavailable. We were temporarily placed on the family side and moved the next day. The $100 credit given for the inconvenience was very limited (only usable at a logo gift shop or spa). While the resort looks beautiful at first glance, it is clearly in need of maintenance: broken roof tiles, peeling paint, damaged lighting, fountains and sprinklers that don’t work consistently, unreliable Wi-Fi, and a slow response to a power outage. During the outage, elevators were down and guests had to carry luggage up a large staircase with little staff assistance. Rooms are spacious but poorly designed—no drawer space, limited bathroom counter space, unreliable electrical outlets, narrow toilet area, difficult tub/hot tub access, wobbly lamps, and visible black mold in vents and exterior areas. Staff are generally friendly but limited English makes communication difficult. Service felt reactive rather than attentive. WhatsApp is used for communication, so download it in advance. Poolside seating must be claimed early. Towels often run out by early afternoon, and the pool chairs are very uncomfortable. The family pool lacks kid-friendly features. Food was TERRIBLE - misleading about needing reservations, many restaurants had the same food. Clearly Sysco-type food re heated. Very difficult to find towels. Had to hunt them down No snacks by the pools or beach Boats drove dangerously close to beach - totally unsafe and got no warning Most staff were not warm and friendly - seemed unhappy to be there. Very very pushy vendors on the strip by the theater. Would not take no for answers and tried grabbing us and putting jewelry, etc on us. Sold us counterfeit Cuban cigars. Many coffee machines were broken

We were not treated right at rhis property for the second time. We went there year before and had inconvenience. They were able to reward us with a guest certificate for our next trip. We decided to give them a another chance. That certificate was worth as much as nothing. None of those upgrades were given to us. We had to go to guest services and have a conversation with them. Still not much results. We decided to just go with what we have. Will never in my life return to that resort. Horrible experiences twice in a row. Just ridiculous. Would not rwcommend this resolt to anyone.

What an amazing vacation for the entire family! Everyone on the staff was very friendly and accommodating. We especially loved the spa staff and the pool bartenders! Would highly recommend and will be back.

We enjoyed parts of our stay, but there were several issues that affected our experience. First, make sure you bring cash for tips — I didn’t think about it, and my husband was made to feel uncomfortable (he was called poor) when asking for a beer because we didn’t have any on hand. Some of the staff were wonderful, especially in the kids’ pool area. Ashley and Sarah truly made a positive difference and were consistently friendly and helpful. The beach area, however, was very crowded and it was difficult to find available chairs. I was also never able to get clean beach towels — every day they were gone before 11 a.m., which was very frustrating. Another major downside was the very loud noise coming from the neighboring resort every night until 11 p.m. It made it difficult to relax in the evenings and definitely affected our ability to rest. The food was good with plenty of options, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, our room experience was disappointing. I had requested two queen beds but was given one king and one twin. When I asked for another twin, the one brought to us was FULL OF MOLD. On top of that, there were two days with no room-cleaning service at all. Overall, there were some highlights, especially thanks to the great staff in the kids’ area, but the room issues, beach crowding, towel shortages, loud nighttime noise, and housekeeping problems made the stay less enjoyable than we had hoped.

We were told check-in was at 3:00 PM, but we didn’t receive our room until almost an hour later. The check-in process felt very disorganized and frustrating after a long day of travel. It also took a while for them to get our luggage to our room. Cleanliness and maintenance were disappointing. At the buffet, I saw dead flies in the food in two different places, which was extremely off-putting. The vanity in our bathroom was also broken. The food overall was below average and not very memorable. While walking around the resort we did see a laundry room with the door open that was very dirty. Staff interactions were hit or miss and generally not very friendly. The only real highlights of our stay were the Mexican & French restaurants, which we enjoyed and the beach. The water the first few days was perfect and towards the end of our stay there was little seaweed. Overall, the resort did not meet expectations. With better organization, cleanliness, and service, it could be much better.

This was a nice resort. They have great activities to engage guests. The only complaints I have are that they ran out of towels at the beach and pool almost daily. The card system is also a little difficult to get towel replacements. The pools are kind of chilly (we went in December so would have liked for it to be warmer in the pool). Didn't see any spa hot pools outside. Since you can't drink the tap water I feel like I was constantly having to request water replacements for the room. It was also slightly slow at some of the bars to get drinks and water. Wasn't totally prepared for that. Other than that, the beach property was very nice. Boogie board rentals for free was fantastic. My son loved that. We found the wait staff at restaurants to be very friendly. Our chef at the Japanese restaurant was incredible! He was so fun and entertaining, the best we've ever had! Food was fantastic. I do feel like every time we called room service for anything they were very prompt to bring it and I very much appreciated that. The bell service staff is really an overlooked jewel at the property. They were so helpful to my aging parents that needed extra help hauling luggage. They also called taxis for us and made sure they took good care of us. They really are amazing at greeting and sending guests off. I would certainly stay here again. Now that I know how things work I would be better prepared.
