Deeply Disappointed – We Will Never Return
My party and I were extremely disappointed with our stay at Meliá Punta Cana Wellness. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the property was not being properly maintained. There were weeds growing throughout the hotel grounds, and the landscaping looked run down and poorly manicured – definitely not what you would expect from a so-called upscale resort.
We had booked “The Level,” the more expensive, exclusive option that promises a higher standard of service and amenities. Unfortunately, the service did not reflect that at all. The bartenders were very slow and seemed uninterested in helping. The all-inclusive concept appears to remove any motivation to provide good service, and we felt this consistently across bars and restaurants.
We also had a very disturbing interaction with one of the bartenders at pool bar. He asked me to give him my hat, and when I refused, he then asked for my watch – and he clearly meant to keep it. Being asked for our personal belongings as “gifts” by staff at a supposedly high-end resort was extremely unsettling and completely unprofessional.
At check-in, even in the exclusive Level area, the process was not clearly explained. Later that evening, when we went to have dinner at one of the hotel restaurants, we were told for the first time that we needed reservations and that we could not dine there—or anywhere—without one.
