Emailed H&H to say that we would be checking in after midnight on Friday 23rd October, called Expedia on 20th October to also contact H&H to confirm that they had received this info. which they did. We arrived at approx. 12.40 am , there were no lights at the H&H, buzzer was out of use, our wonderful taxi driver Vasco called the H&H contact number on my documentation & was told that some one would be there in 20 mins, after 30 mins, a young man in his late teens turned up on a bike & informed us that there was no booking! I showed him our info. which I had taken with me, he informed me that the place was completely full & there were no rooms available: we had paid for 23rd - 25th October. I asked were the owner was he said he lived outside Rome, if it wasn't for our wonderful taxi driver we would have been absolutely stuffed, he went with my partner, whilst I stayed with our 13 year old son to see if we could get a room from 1 of the hotels within the area. We eventually got a room at Hotel Bled, by now it was about 2.30am, who were really wonderful, on that night we had to have 1 single & 1 double room as there were no family rooms available. We only had 2 full days in Rome & decided to make the most of our trip & deal with this situation on our return. I am definitely taking this incident further. It was touch & go but we eventually secured a family room for 3 with Hotel Bled. I would hate for anyone else to go through this experience.
