“Yubune was a fantastic place to rest on our way along the Shimanami Kaidō. The property is so clean you’ll think it was opened yesterday. The staff are super helpful; they not only recommended a fantastic yakitori place for dinner, but walked us there. And the onsen is truly something else - beautiful tiled mural and just an overall fantastic space. It helps that each day the men’s and women’s onsens switch so you can get to experience both. “Location and staff were great but amenities were lacking. No toothbrush? Check-in time only between 4-8 pm? Property had no onsen? These are pretty standard items for Japanese hotels and for the price, they should have been provided.”

(Worth the uphill climb and slight detour from the main shimanami kaido route!) Smooth and easy communication with the owner. Google maps location was accurate. Breakfast provided was decent. “We stayed at the Azumi for one night. After a dreary day of cycling, we were looking forward to some pampering. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. The room was gorgeous - large and serene with nice appointments like a shoe dryer for wet days (genius!). The food at the on-site restaurant is very good.”

“Room are small, but that is fine when you travel. The bed is best suited for one or couples. The walk is reasonable from the station roo. Host is also very responsive as we had two back to back reservations and they responded quickly for us to stay in the same room. Would definitely recommend to others.”

“Our stay at Shiomachi Roya in Tomonoura was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. I was impressed by the renovations done to turn this old merchant house into an inn. I liked the design and decor. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Because this particular house (Roya) has only 4 rooms to stay in, the staff are located at another sister inn literally just around the corner, one minute away.
