We stayed here for 6 nights at the end of our 3 week tour of Italy. The apartment is just as pictured, only better because the television has been upgraded to an extra large flat screen with satellite. There is also a small television in the kitchen that we used to play music while we cooked in the well equipped kitchen. Siena was experiencing a record heat wave while we were there and the air conditioning worked quite well. The charge for the electricity was 40 euros, and we thought that it was well worth it to keep our family of four comfortably cool and we also used the washer and dryer liberally to catch up on our laundry. (The instruction book is on top of the dryer) The two decks have beautiful views, and cool breezes in the evenings. We enjoyed dining there. The location on the map on this site is a little off. It is a few blocks further down the road. You will see a round building and across the street is the apartment. It is located on the 4th floor above some shops. (no worries, there is an elevator) It is the perfect location for a home base to visit the Tuscan region. If you have a car, it is easy to park it. Since you can't have a car within the city walls, this is worth noting. We chose not to have a car, and normally I think that would be fine, but with the heat, it made walking a chore. The mall, grocery stores, and train stations are only a 10 minute walk. (take a backpack to carry groceries) In the mall you can take a series of free escalators to get to the top of the hill. Once there it is about a 25 minute scenic walk to the Duomo, winding through lovely old streets. Because of the heat, one of the days, my husband and I decided to take a taxi to the old part of Siena, so we would arrive fresh instead of sweaty and then walked home after touring several museums and having a leisurely lunch. Even though most cars are not permitted, they do allow taxis. The cost was 10 euro. Originally, we had planned on doing 3 tours with Francesca, but due to some family emergencies, we were only able to do one and it was by far the best tour of our entire three week trip. Living in the area, she knows all the secret places to go! The Montalcino and Montepulciano tour is highly recommended and don't forget your camera! She will work with you to customize a tour to your interests! Even if you don't choose to stay in the penthouse apartment...make sure you book a tour with Francesca!!!! She is the best!
