We booked a 3-night stay at this apartment through Expedia, with a full payment ahead of time. We had a nice stay at this place until the day before our departure. Three of us stayed all 3 nights whereas one of us only stayed for 2 nights. Expedia informed us that we would be paying the tourist tax at the hotel of about 29 US dollars at the hotel. However, upon check-out, the host asked us to pay 36 EUR total, stating that each of us needed to pay tourist tax of 2.50EUR/person per night plus a cleaning fee of 6.25EUR which came out of nowhere. First of all, one of our children is less than 18 and should only pay 50% of the tourist tax rate per Croatian government's rules, and another one of us only stayed in Split for 2 nights. The total tourist tax for us should have only been 23.75EUR, which is about the same amount as previously disclosed by Expedia. Secondly, our room was not cleaned although we put out a sign at our door explicitly requesting for a room cleaning service. I am not sure why the hotel host wanted to charge extra fees on their guests for things like these. The little extra money that they gained on each guest is not worth the long-term loss of customers and poor reputation of the place. The apartments were beautiful and located at a very convenient location. However, poor customer service, hidden fees and inaccurate billing to their customers just ruined the stay experience that could have been a pleasant one.
