Tabarka is a small town on the Mediterranean coast of northwestern Tunisia between the sea and the mountains, 3 hours from the capital Tunis and the Tunis-Carthage airport. The charm of Tabarka is very different from the mass tourism of other cities. Its name is of Berber origin and etymologically means "the land of heather" and it is one of the greenest regions of Tunisia. Ain Draham, 15 km away, Hammam Bourguiba has hot thermal springs, and famous for its sulphurous waters which offer courses of care for respiratory and joint problems. Also visit the Museum of Liège which is in the center of Tabarka, to learn all about the extraction and processing of this versatile material. On the way to Tabarka, make a stop at Sejnane, a house with many storks' nests. Leaving the village, you can stop to buy the pottery of Berber origin. Tabarka is also perfectly located for excursions to famous archaeological sites in the surrounding area including Bulla Regia, Chemtou and Dougga.
