“The garden wing was in desperate need of refurbishment, we upgraded to the ocean wing where we found great rooms and shangri-la standards. We had come to see orangutans (as wideley sponsored on-line) and other wildlife with some ocean fun, we found no apes and jelly fish infested, highly polluted waters (fracking is taking place all over the area). Nevertheless the service was good, the hotel was clean and the weather pleasant. Not returning ”

“The Shangti-La is just a step up from other hotels. Yes, it's big and busy but the staff go out of their way to really spoil you. I'm vegan and they bent over backwards to ensure I had a great breakfast, sent soy milk to my room tweaked dishes so I ate well. And the location - oh my. We stayed in a garden room and could walk straight out looking at the sea. Room had a shower and a bath, was well stocked. Water in the fridge every day. Their Spa was great too. I can't think of anything bad about...

“We were a group of nature lovers who were using this as a three night stay to get used to the temperature and time change upon arrival in Borneo. Loved the grounds and snorkeling right from the beach. Fantastic nature center staffed by several biologists. The food options were a bit pricey but we were expecting that. The grounds were very birdy and we found two Borean Pit Vipers. The mangrove tour was fantastic. Room is very good quality for the price.”

“Very good location, short walk along the road to the national park. Big spacious clean room, with daily cleaning, beautiful location with lovely views. Only issue was things in the room got slightly damp in the morning but really worth it for the cheap price! ”

“投宿日は早朝に到着したが、チェックインまで荷物を預かってくれた。日暮れ後部屋に蚊や蛾が沢山入ってきたが、フロントで殺虫剤を借りて事なきを得た。原因はバスルームの窓が開いていたことだった。キナバル公園をトレッキングした際に、虻又は蛭に足首を噛まれ、シャワーを浴びようとして気が付いた。フロントに相談すると、適切に処置をしてくれた。親身で丁寧な対応が大変好感が持てた。しかし、翌朝「早立ち」する旨伝えていたにも拘わらず、係は定時にしか現れず、この日の予定に支障をきたした。ただし、係は丁寧に詫びてくれた。（内部の情報共有に問題が） なお、私の部屋はWIFIが利用できなかった。（利用する部屋の価格クラスに依存するのかも？） 食事場所は１０分も歩けば近くにあるが、日暮れ後や雨の日は交通量が多いので、こんな場合は十分に気を付けてください。”

“I think this was one of the nice hotels i Kota Kinabalu. Not too new and some better maintenance is possible, but for the prices offered, it's definitely OK. My observations from that hotel and from the next, in Sandakan, show that probably in all Malaysia (or at least in Borneo) there is something to be improved in housekeeping. It took some effort to receive towels, there were some chambermaid's hairs on the floor... things like that are definitely not the best, even though I won't remember...
