I was treated very poorly on my last day in Tokyo. I checked out at 10:50AM and was told to insert my room key into the kiosk machine. I then left my luggage at the front and they asked me when I was expecting to return and I said 3PM. I left and returned at 2:55 to retrieve my luggage. I then went to sit at the couch area in the lobby to wait for my airport ride. At 3:20PM, I get a call from the hotel and the guy on the phone was yelling at me about not paying a late check-out fee and that if I did not pay, he would call the police. I went 10 feet from where I was sitting to the guy that was calling me and asked what this was about. He started yelling about the late check-out fee and I became confused because I had checked out before 11AM earlier that day. He looked at his colleague and then accused me of returning the wrong room key. How can I return the wrong room key when I only had one card for my entire stay? Also, they all saw me leave my luggage for almost 4 hours. So without a room key and luggage, how could I have been inside my room? The female worker said that she called up to my room and someone picked up the phone. I'm not sure who that person was since I traveled solo this time and was sitting in the lobby in the entire time. At this point, the workers realized their mistake and gave a half-hearted apology. I have been to Japan 4 times and have never experienced anything like this. What would have been a 5-star experience is now 1-star.
