Waase is a picturesque village on the island of Ummanz, which lies west of Rügen and is connected to the main island by a bridge near Waase. This unique location makes the small village the “gateway” to the island of Ummanz. Even as you cross the bridge, you can feel the tranquility and vastness that characterize this region. Waase itself is characterized by traditional brick houses, thatched roofs, and lovingly tended gardens.

The center of the village is the imposing 14th-century Gothic brick church of St. Mary, known for its artistically carved winged altarpiece.
