We reserved a handicap accessible room - and were assigned a room with a roll in shower
If you utilize a roll in shower you need either a bench or shower chair to transfer into - you can't wheel the chair into the shower
If you're able to stand but have balance issues you no need to hold onto a grab bar so you don't fall
The shower nozzle is at about 5 feet so it's too low to get under if you're able to stand compounded by the fact you only are able to use one hand
We ended up checking out a day early as the shower is completely unusable
The staff member indicated that they've worked at the property for 3 years and there's never been a chair
While I don't expect a desk clerk to be a disability expert I do expect the franchise owner or General Manager to have an understanding or to contact the corporate office for support
In addition the room phone was missing buttons and inoperable
I called the front desk directly after check in which was late Friday - so I understand the issue couldn't be addressed instantly but it could have been rectified on Saturday by visiting any medical supply store and buying a shower chair for approximately $100
The message sent by this property is we technically meet ADA requirements but we really don't care about disabled customers especially after getting the stock " we're sorry for the inconvenience"
You're really not - and having an unworking phone is a safety hazard
I will be speaking with the corporate office this week
