Dave's deer hunting trip
The cottage served my needs at a great value. One remark I would say is that the guestbook did not have any listing & directions to local services like laundry, groceries, church, restaurants etc. Two safety concerns I wish to mention. 1) The blind left turn out of Lauffer onto Stitts was very uncomfortable for me. Perhaps a mirror could be installed. 2) The landing area at the top of the stairs felt like a real fall hazard down the stairs. I realize that given the construction there may be very little to do about it but I was alert to it every moment I walked through there. The night light in the bathroom didn't really illuminate the area so I kept the lamp in the opposite room on every night. That's all. I'd gladly come back. In the little bit I interacted with the hosts their responsiveness was immediate.

Old house on the Hill
House really needs some updates. House smelled really bad when we walked in. Flies everywhere, dead and alive. Would not ever stay again! Drive way a nightmare!

Country Cozy Comfort
This was our second time staying at this adorable cottage. I like to call the farmhouse, lol It is always so quiet and cozy. There is a beautiful deck out back for stargazing at night or deer, watching early in the morning. Such a wonderful place for family, cookouts and gatherings. The children loved running in the big yard and playing ball. The kitchen is big and equipped with all your needs to make a big breakfast, which we also enjoyed on the deck. The beds are comfortable and cozy to fall in to after a long day of fun. We always enjoy our stay and hope to return again in the future.

Another great stay at the Country Cottage!
This is our second stay here at the Country Cottage, and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. Both times were for weekends with extended family in the area, and the house and location are perfect for us. The house had all of the amenities needed. The hosts go above and beyond to ensure an enjoyable and comfortable stay! We'll be back.

Sweet, cozy, country cabin
The hosts were eager to help and to provide the most hospitable accommodations. My favorite times at the house were after sunlight with the soft lights of the lamps while enjoying a glass of wine while reading a book from their outstandingly well curated small library of literary greats as my teenage boys played chess, giggling away against the peace and quiet of being out in the country. We stayed here for a wedding and the stay was just as lovely as the event. Not far there is an A+ breakfast spot called G&G Restaurant. Everything on the menu is amazing but I cannot recommend the gyro omelet enough. (Ask for cucumbers.) All in all, a lovely stay and if I’m ever in need of a house in the rural outskirts of Pittsburgh, this is where I’ll choose again.

Just right for this trip
We were visiting the area for a dog training workshop and this house was perfect for us. The bedrooms were nice and LARGE, with plenty of floor space to fit a crate for my German Shepherd and still walk around without tripping over it! We've stayed in a few places where we could barely fit a crate so this was definitely appreciated. Also on this hot rainy weekend, we were very happy to have air conditioning that worked well! The grounds were very nice with plenty of room for the dogs to stretch their legs a bit. We enjoyed the visit and would stay again if we're back in the area.

Great space for family gathering
Great place to relax in peace and quiet. The deck was a great place for breakfast or just relax and birdwatch. Some folks mentioned the stairs and the road leading to the house were an issue. I didn't see an issue with either as the stairs are well lit with a sturdy hand rail and the road was easily navigated in my Camry. One thing to keep in mind is that you are in the country and there are insects that will want to come into the house with some eventually sneaking in, not an issue if you leave the bug attracting exterior lights off. This house is at the top of my list if I need to rent in the future.

Peaceful and quiet stay
Place was quiet and secluded, very nice option if you are looking to get away from civilization. You are about 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. Some of the surrounding roads are gravel and some are a little steep. The place was clean and everything was as expected. Be prepared to see a few stinkbugs or dead wasps in the house, which is normal for a heavily wooded area. You will enjoy your stay here.

Best Getaway
This little cottage and it’s setting was perfect…it was clean and ready for us a little ahead of time …the hosts were awesome with fast and detailed emails answering my questions…had all appliances and everything u could need …if you want a little vacation with some peaceful quiet time to relax and sit back and enjoy nature I suggest here!…we loved it and will be back again…all the old wood furniture brought me back to a time when I was a kid and I’d spend time at my grandparents… thank you for the wonderful memories - new and old!!!!😊💜😃

The place was great and quiet.
Seeing all the wildlife around was great especially the deer in the morning. Also loved the neighbors beagle that came by to say hi a few times. Only minor issue was there seemed to be several stink bugs upstairs that i had to kill off and also found a few hornets buzzing around upstairs. They didnt bother me but it may others.

Cozy and vintage
This was my partner and I's second time staying here and it is always so cozy in the winter months. It's very vintage, but I normally live in an RV so I certainly don't mind that aspect. We got some rain this time and you can hear the rain on the roof and it's just such a nice, calming experience. Both of us love staying there. The only thing I'll note is that the bathroom is kind of made for small people. Totally okay with me since I'm 5'2 and my partner is 5'5 but just keep that in mind!

Christmas stay
The house was clean and very well stocked. House stayed warm even with below zero temps and -25 degree wind chills. Due to about 2" of snow house was inaccessible without 4wd. Had a visitor with fwd and they could not climb the hill. The Bad: Stairs to the upper floor where the bedrooms and only bathroom are located are Very Steep. This was not disclosed in the add for the house and even though there are pictures of all the house no pictures show the stairs. For a 72 year old with 2 knee replacements it was very difficult. This definitely should have been disclosed in the description for the house.

Had a great peaceful stay at this location. Would stay again. Invited family over for dinner and 12 of us were comfortable for the evening. Enjoyed watching the deer in the morning and my pup enjoyed the place. Only negative- (was not listed) my error for assuming. No hair dryer. I had to go and purchase one. I would book again.

Great cottage!!
This was by far the best little cottage rental I have stayed in. So quaint, clean and beautiful area! The amenities were fabulous and to be able to have our doggies with us was the best! I would highly recommend this place as a great place to stay!! We will definitely stay here again!

Great stay at the country cottage!
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Vandergrift country cottage. It was perfect for our trip to the area for a long-awaited family picnic at Crooked Creek Lake. The cottage was exactly as described, and the four of us (two sisters and our husbands) were quite comfortable. The cottage was a much better choice for us than the few hotels in the area. A future visit may allow us to explore a bit outside or just sit on the swing and relax (we had rain the days we were there). Our hosts answered all of our questions in a very timely manner (thanks!!), and I'm sure we'll be returning. Thanks again!

Tranquil
This property was perfect for us. If you are looking for quiet nights and beautiful scenery, this is perfection. The home comes fully equipped with everything you could need and even a friendly doggo for any animal lovers as myself. There is only one thing I would like to give as feedback. Considering there are no streaming services available: adding a few more movies or boardgames for adults to your collection would be nice.

Father's Day weekend

Quiet getaway
This property is quietly secluded, and has beautiful meadows,and an abundance of songbirds. Approx 40 min to Pittsburgh for sight seeing and dining. This place offered evething we needed for an enjoyable stay. Pet friendly, so our fido also had an enjoyable stay. We would definitely return to this property again in the future.

Awesome Location
We needed a place to stay for the weekend while in PA to visit our family. We didn't want to stay in a hotel. We wanted a place where we could relax & be comfortable. We found "The Cottage" & it looked like the perfect place. When we arrived, we absolutely loved it! The house was well stocked in the kitchen & bathroom. The views out both the front & back were amazing! The location was peaceful & relaxing. Check-in & Check-out was easy. Communication with owners was Great! There were 7 deer that came down to the field in the back. Make sure you bring binoculars. They have one in the house, but there were 3 of us & we all were watching. When we visit family in the future, this is where we want to stay! If you decide to stay at "The Cottage", you will not be disappointed!!

Truly the kindest hosts. We have stayed at this property on many occasions and have always felt incredibly welcome. It’s a cute little place, surrounded by trees and wildlife. The hosts really make you feel welcome and are so genuinely thoughtful.
