We recently stayed 3 nights. Overall we did not have a bad stay but I learned an important lesson of being a guest in a short term rental. Even though this is the last thing I would think about doing during what is supposed to be a relaxing stay, I would encourage taking photos or video to document the condition of the rental. During my recent stay in the cabin, I did not find it to be very clean. Specifically there was a thick layer of what I thought was dust on the nightstands in the master bedroom and a few other areas around the house. I’ve come to learn that it probably wasn’t dust, but remnants of volcanic ash which is common in the area. While it might be common, it probably would have been a nice touch for the host to have those surfaces wiped down prior to our arrival but I was happy to overlook it. In addition to that, there were also a few areas in the house where the cleaning was subpar including around the toilet in the 2nd bathroom and some light staining on the bath towels. I did not contact the host or document any of this as I’m just not that bothered by it and I was more focused on enjoying my time in the area and I don’t like to complain. Give all this, I was quite surprised to find out that I would be charged for the stained bath towels. Quite shocking honestly when I did nothing to cause the stains. Anyways, you live and learn and it becomes your word against theirs but they have the power to charge your credit card.
