Within the grounds of the owners’ charming picturesque period cottage in the rural village of West Hendred, where you can enjoy walking on the ancient Ridgeway and Icknield Way.

There is a small terrace at the entrance to the apartment where you can sit and enjoy an evening drink watching the sun go down. There is also a shared garden area with the owners and their small family dog. This is a fabulous staycation for couples looking to discover this part of Oxfordshire and neighbouring Berkshire. The town of Abingdon, which is on the banks of the River Thames, is approximately 7 miles away and is purported to be the oldest town in England. It is steeped in history with many fine old buildings. Loftings is tucked away in a rural setting in the centre of the tiny village of West Hendred, in the heart of Oxfordshire, just half an hour southwest of the historic city of Oxford. Set within a Conservation area, the village is on the edge of the ancient Ridgeway and Icknield Way, popular for hiking and biking.



No trip to this area is complete without a visit to the historic University City of Oxford where you can meander through the streets admiring the beautiful historical buildings, have a punt down the river or enjoy a shopping spree at the large shopping centre.



Within easy reach are three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty with Berkshire Downs right on the doorstep where you can enjoy many hikes including the famous Ridgeway, a stunning place to watch the sunset. The Chilterns are also close by, where you can enjoy many walks or cycle routes while spotting wildlife such as red kites. A number of beautiful quintessential English villages are just waiting to be explored in the Cotswolds, and you could stop off at one of the many English country pubs along the way. Wantage is 4 miles, Abingdon 9 miles, Oxford 15 miles, Didcot Parkway station 6 miles for trains to London Paddington in 40 minutes), Heathrow Airport is 50 miles. Visit the large collection of steam locomotives at Didcot Railway Centre where you can ride on the 1930s trains.
