Creekside cottage

A true fly fisherman’s dream destination. Located just two miles north upstream of the Yellow River Forest. Fish and hike during the day then relax at night to a nice camp fire while star gazing in a perfect sky with no light pollution. You will never see the Milky Way so clearly again. Creekside Cottage is also adjacent to a county park with no overnight camping but features a play area for kids.

A great place to fish, hunt, hike, or enjoy the views of this valley. New Wood Stove recently added in main living room and a brand new outdoor hot tub in the rear of the cabin.

-propane for grill and firewood are not provided with this rental. Please bring your own firewood/buy it in local town. There will be a tank at property that can be filled in town as well.
-3 night minimum stay required for weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend.

We plan a getaway at least once a year to decompress and specifically look for a place that offers an outdoor hot tub with a view. High winds prior to our arrival damaged the hot tub cover lift, but we were able to wedge a couple of boards against the HT so we could more easily manage moving the cover. While Creekside cottage does have a nice view from the HT, the picture in the ad (as of this posting) is not the hot tub/view at Creekside cottage (hot tub is set near the front of the cabin with stairs and cabin on one side, privacy fence blocking the road on another, and views looking towards the steep bluff with stream running below - can't really see the stream from the HT). The cabin was clean and provided most needed necessities. It's too bad they didn't build the cabin with larger windows or glass sliders to take full advantage of the surrounding views it has to offer - stream and rocky bluff to the west and sloping hillside to the east. We did figure it out, but something to note is that the thermostat on the main level controls the heating upstairs while there's a separate thermostat in the basement that controls the main level. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend or re-book Creekside cottage in the future.

My husband and I had amazing weekend getaway at the Creekside Cabin. We were so happy to unplug from the rest of the world and enjoy coffee on the porch, listening to the birds, drinks by the babbling creek and the hot tub was the highlight of it all. The cabin was beautifully appointed and the kitchen was stocked for the ease of cooking our meals. The weather was perfect for cracking the windows and feeling the cool breeze at night. We also explored a hiking trail nearby. We will definitely be back to share it with family next time.

Cabin was full of dead flys and a lady bug infestation. There was a mouse nest in the draw of the bed side table in the main guest room which was very unpleasant to find. Hot tub exterior was quite damaged. Listed a ‘full stocked kitchen’ which only had 2 knife options which were both duller than spoons.

The property is beautiful and so is the cabin. You are 30 minutes away from the nearest grocery store and restaurant, so it is quiet and serene there. The creek just adds to it. The cabin has everything you need except the food. We received our code to get into the cabin the day of, just like it states. We stayed for my husband’s 40th birthday to go hiking and to come back after a long day of hiking to a jacuzzi was very nice. We even came back to deer laying in the yard.

Creekside cabin is an adorable knotty pine retreat. Main floor bedroom and full bath. Upstairs bedroom with twin beds and half bath worked perfect for our family of four.We've been coming to this area for 20 years but have given up camping. So Creekside cabin being close to friends at Yellow River State Forest was wonderful. It's a prime location for fishing with access to the streams and the park. There are plenty of pots, pans and utensils to prepare meals. The beds were comfortable and other than the build up of dead flies, the cabin was clean. My only side note and just a personal preference. I do wish the cabin set up with only one sofa and the large table in the dining room as shown in photos had stayed that way. Having the extra sofa made the kitchen area crowded and hard to prepare meals and serve meals. As noted in the description bring extra towels for the hot tub and maybe a few extra for daily bathing. I would definitely come back.

Secluded stay and fishing access

Beautiful and peaceful! No neighbors and a creek for fishing behind the cottage. We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit and seeing wild turkeys. State forest close by.

Favorite cozy getaway

We’ve visited “the Iowa Cabin” many times over the past six years. It’s a cozy, well-equipped property with everything we need for a family getaway. The location is peaceful and we’ve taught our kids to trout fish in the stream on the property. Many great memories here - we’ll be back!
