The weekend we stayed the hotel was fully booked. The staff were all very friendly and polite. We ate in the restaurant on our first evening where the service was good and the food excellent. We retired to the lounge bar after our meal and had to approach the bar staff to get a table cleared and cleaned, which with a watchful eye should have happened before we sat down. Tables still became cluttered with plates and glasses and staff were still very slow to clear them. The following morning we went down to breakfast at the beginning of service, the staff were all gathered around the bar chattering, not acknowledging our presence. At the food bars there were flies near the fruit and the eggs had run out, we had to ask for more, as the restaurant became busier they struggled, there didn't appear to be enough crockery and cutlery to cope with the demand. The staff with the exception of a couple were all very young and inexperienced. Tables were not cleared and cleaned quick enough for a turnaround, even though they could have been. The one coffee machine could not cope, both mornings we were there, it had to be refilled (surely it should be checked before service) and there was always a queue. Clearly another coffee machine is required. To try and make it easier staff had moved tea making facilities to the bar with supposedly a pot of hot water, which at beginning of service was empty!! Despite this the outstanding star was Becky a marvellous credit to the hotel and restaurant.
