I enjoyed my stay overnight, despite the required $100 damage deposit and unfortunate encounter on check-in.
I have enjoyed a few other York area hotels this summer. This Quality Inn is the only one that required a ‘damages’ deposit. When informed, I expressed to the manager on check-in that the deposit made me, ‘feel some type of way’. Maybe a poor choice of words, but I had just driven 6 hours and was fatigued. The manager accused me of saying he was being R. I tried to clarify that as a mature woman, alone, and just needing a rest before a long drive back home, there would be no room damage. This encounter was distasteful and embarrassing. It left a bad impression.
For new visitors, the people of York are warm and welcoming, many literally family of many backgrounds. In 20+ years, I have never had an unpleasant or R encounter there, and feel at home amongst all the people.
Accommodations: HSKG was friendly and professional. There was a noxious chemical smell permeating the hallway of the 3rd floor. Puckered carpet (a tripping hazard) greets you throughout the long hallway and makes it difficult to roll a suitcase on.
The room was well-appointed and reasonable in cost — on a moment’s notice. Very clean. The bed was squeaky, loud, and awoke me from my sleep from just changing positions.
Breakfast was absolutely top-notch, hands down, for the cost of the room, again, very reasonable. Due to damages deposit, I will seek other accommodations in future.
