“Excellent”
Beautiful hotel in a great location
“Hotel for midgets”
We stayed at the fifth floor which is created in attic. My wife and I ended up injuring our head multiple times. You can't walk in normal fashion unless you are 4 feet tall or below. Hotel is 2 stops away from the train station and is located on the canal so location is a plus.
“Honeymoon in Venice”
We splurged on this hotel and it was worth every penny. We got slippers and a concierge helped us up to our room and left before we had the chance to give him a tip! I guess they don't expect it? The breakfast was delicious, expect pastries, weird bacon, eggs, and delicious espresso. Get a chocolate cafe, it comes from a machine (the waiter showed us in the back) and fresh squeezed orange juice. The ceiling was leaking one day, but they fixed it right away. The location was close enough to the train station and a water taxi is on the side of the building. We walked from the train station, which is doable if you have some muscles to lift your bags. Check to see if the watertaxi's are striking as they were upon our arrival. Buy a map from the train station ASAP and follow it, don't feel bad for stopping at every corner to make sure your finger is still tracing your location on the map. Better yet bring my husband, once he got to the hotel by using the above instructions, he looked at the map one more time and we were golden the whole trip (don't expect this to happen to you). Happy travels!!
“Great hotel for the price”
We arrived early and were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel before our check in. The clerk spoke good English which was helpful to us. Our room was very nice and as it was our honeymoon we were offered the presidential suite, which went for normally an additional 1000 euros, for an additional 200 euros. Although we declined, it was a nice offer. The room was clean and spacious. TV was small but we didn't care as we didn't watch it anyways. Morning breakfast which was included was great - i can honestly say the best croissants I had on our entire 18 day honeymoon. Great service. We were allowed at no cost to leave our luggage at the hotel after checkout but before our departure to our cruise ship later that afternoon. Upon request the hotel called for a water taxi for us to the ship. Really great hotel overall. No restaurant in the hotel itself but we didn't care as we wanted to explore Venice and we didn't mind walking a few minutes to find a decent one. The vaparetto to the hotel is literally right beside the hotel so we didnt have to drag around our many pieces of luggage that far.
“Lovely room, once we got it.”
I stayed at this hotel with my fiancée during February. We chose to stay here because of all the fantastic reviews we’d read, and over all, the hotel lived up to them. The rooms were very clean (and spacious by Venetian standards!). The breakfast was very nice with plenty of variety. Most of the Hotel staff were friendly and we didn’t have a problem finding it on foot from the bus depot. It’s roughly a 15 minute walk. There are also two restaurants within 200m of the hotel. There were however, two issues which arose, that I had not read about in other reviews. Be warned, the water busses run all night and there is a stop right by the hotel. To be fair, the wooden shutters on the windows did drown out most of the noise. My main problem was with the initial check in process. If you book this hotel through a travel provider like I did, be sure to print out a copy of your reservation. I paid for a Superior Room with a view of the Grand Canal and was given a Standard Double with a view of the courtyard. When I took this up with the staff on the front desk I was told that’s the room I had paid for! The situation was only resolved when, after five minutes of disagreement, I asked them to check the description given on Expedia’s website. He did and we were upgraded immediately! No apology was given. Despite the disappointing start, I would still recommend Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli, as we did enjoy our stay and were happy with the room when we eventually got the right one!
“Nice place to stay”
The hotel was not hard to find. There are only very limited places to walk in Venice. We stumbled on it. The staff was fluent in English... even though my girlfriend and I spoke Italian. The breakfast is nice and simple. I would not recommend getting the capuchino. It is a bit watery. The location is perfect to walk there from the train station on the water buses. Even after readin about others who stayed in the dormer room I decided to give it a try. It was small and nice. My girlfirend was freaked out by a small door that connected the room to the roof. It did not have a lock and bothered her. But not enough for her to let me change the room. The tub was very nice but the shower was small enough to work. The windows have remotes... didn't figure it out until the morning. But other than that it was perfect for the romantic weekend we planned.
“An excellent place to stay”
We cannot say enough in terms of positive information about our stay at Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal the middle of October 2010. We picked the hotel based on information from the Expedia site and primarilty its location given our unique situation. We planned to have a box of wine from our trip across Italy before we left Venice on a cruise -- only to learn that the cruise ship would not store the wine for us. So we contacted the Hotel by email and were very pleased that they would store the box for the week at no charge. So when we arrived to drop off car rental, I took the boxeby water taxi to the hotel then returned to where my husband and luggage were waiting to head to the port and board our ship for a cruise. When we returned from the cruise we were welcomed and our box was returned. Staff at the front desk helped with purchase of water "bus" passes, where to go to pick up boat trip and timing for bus to get there on time, transporation to airport etc etc. Breakfasts were excellent - freshly prepared with prompt service - whether in a hurry to get going or had time to have an extra cup of coffee/tea. We were in the W/C accessible room because of limited mobility and found the room on the main floor easy to access and the bathroom very accomodationg. The only challenge was the size of the room - not a lot of space to get around to the far side of the bed - but fine for access on one side (which was all we needed). Highly recoomend this hotel.
“Couldn't ask for better!!!”
After arriving in Venice by plane we hopped on the bus to the island and then caught the water taxi on the Grand Canal. Only three stops later we were at our S. Stae stop and the hotel was right there to our left, easy to find and quick to get to and from. Clean, spacious and quiet rooms with lovley views of surrounding canals and gardens. Delicious and fair sized breakfast with great service both in the morning and at the bar during the day and evening. A 10+ hotel in a wonderful area, away from the crowds yet not too far to walk to everything very easily :)
“loved it.......but make sure you have plenty of Euro's”
As the previous comment - take the vapparetto to San Stae, a church is in front of you, walk in front of the church - left - walk over the small walk way bridge and go right and take the 1st left - Hotel is 1st door left which takes you into the courtyard. There are no signs. Perfect position if you enjoy walking and discovering but if you don't just jump on the Vaparetto which has a frequent service. Breakfast is continental buffet - gorgous croissants and fresh coffee! My partner had a frappe whilst waiting for me to get ready and charged it to our room. It cost 9 euros! Was quiet, clean and comfortable - staff helpful - loved it!
