Seaview Family Stay Akaroa - Spacious, Sunny & 2 carparks - 2 min walk to waterfront
A spacious, sunny three-level townhouse on Church Street, in the heart of Akaroa, sleeping up to nine. A two-minute walk to the wharf, waterfront, cafés, and French bakeries --- park the car and explore on foot. Harbour views from the master bedroom and the sunny balcony, three levels of living so the group isn't on top of each other, a private courtyard garden, two carparks, two free kayaks, fast Starlink WiFi, and a kitchen set up for real cooking.
The space
The townhouse sleeps up to nine across three bedrooms plus a sunroom.
Top level --- Master bedroom: King bed with harbour views, plus a single day bed suitable for a child. Bedroom two: a King that splits into two single beds on request (note it when you book), a light second room that suits children or friends. Family bathroom on this level, plus a separate toilet.
Middle level --- open-plan kitchen, dining, and living, with a sunny balcony over the harbour and a guest toilet.
Ground level --- Bedroom three: a bunk bed and a single bed with a pull-out trundle underneath --- sleeps up to four, family-friendly and good for kids or extra guests. A second bathroom on this level. The sunroom alcove next door works as a quiet reading nook and small lounge --- guests with kids liked having the extra downstairs space.
Total sleeping: nine --- Master (King + child's day bed), Bedroom two (King, or two singles), Bedroom three (bunk plus a single with pull-out trundle).
Linen and towels are provided, and there's a washing machine for guest use. A high chair and portacot are available for families (please bring your own portacot bedding). The home is spread over three levels connected by an internal staircase --- worth noting for anyone who'd find stairs difficult.
-- The living spaces --
The main living area is on the middle level: open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge, with big windows and doors onto a balcony that catches the sun and looks over the harbour. It's the room the group gravitates to --- sofa and armchairs at one end, the dining table seating six at the other, and harbour glimpses from most of it. A heat pump keeps the level warm through the cooler months (guests singled it out on a winter stay), there's a wall-mounted TV, local artwork on the walls, and a stack of toys, board games, and books for slow evenings in. A writing desk works for anyone catching up on emails or journalling --- paired with fast Starlink WiFi, it's a genuine option for a few days of remote work.
The master bedroom on the top level is the pick of the rooms: a King bed, crisp white linen, and harbour views to wake up to, with a single day bed tucked in for a younger child. It has its own heat pump for heating and cooling, so it stays comfortable in any season. The second bedroom on the same level is lighter and quieter, with a King that splits into two singles for children or friends. Downstairs, the third bedroom is built for families --- a bunk plus a single with a pull-out trundle, sleeping up to four --- with the sunroom alcove beside it as a quiet spot to read or for the kids to have their own space.
A mural runs up the internal stairway --- one of those details that gives the place its own character rather than feeling like a standard rental.
-- The kitchen --
The kitchen is genuinely set up for cooking real meals --- guests regularly note how well stocked it is, down to an impressive range of spices. Oven, hob, rangehood, air fryer, and a Nespresso machine with coffee pods supplied. The dining table seats six, with the sunny balcony just outside for meals in the open air.
You'll usually find welcome touches waiting: milk in the fridge and a packet of biscuits to get you started. The bathrooms are stocked with shampoo, shower gel, and hand soap, and there are cleaning supplies on hand --- handy for longer stays.
-- Outdoor space --
A private courtyard garden sits below the house --- sheltered, green, and sunny, with outdoor seating and bean bags. It's the spot for a morning coffee with birdsong, or a wind-down with a wine at the end of the day. The middle-level balcony has its own table and chairs, angled at the harbour and the afternoon sun.
Two kayaks --- with wheels for wheeling down to the water and life jackets included --- are free for guests and reserved for this unit alone. The harbour is a minute away, so you can be on the water within a few minutes of leaving the door.
There's a BBQ for warm evenings --- dinner in the courtyard or on the balcony while the light goes over the harbour.
Two off-street carparks are provided, right next to the entrance --- a genuine advantage in Akaroa, where waterfront parking is tight over summer and busy weekends. Unload at the door, park, and you're set.
Fast, stable WiFi throughout, delivered by Starlink --- the connection stays solid even when the town's network goes down, which it has, and guests here stayed online through it. Good enough for remote work, video calls, and streaming. Two free kayaks with life jackets, toys, board games and books for the kids, local artwork throughout, and a short local guide to what's worth doing while you're here. On arrival you'll often find a few welcome touches in the fridge --- milk and a packet of biscuits to get you started.
-- Location and neighbourhood --
The townhouse is on Church Street, one of Akaroa's most sought-after streets, a short walk up from the waterfront.
On foot: the wharf and waterfront are a two-minute walk down the hill. So is Bully Hayes, and Akaroa Fish & Chips --- rated some of the best in the country --- is two minutes as well, along with the pharmacy. Ma Maison, one of Akaroa's best-known waterfront restaurants, is a 10-minute stroll. The village's cafés, boutique shops, and the French bakeries and patisseries Akaroa is known for are all within an easy walk, and the children's playground is about 15 minutes on foot. The historic lighthouse is around 10 minutes' walk, and the French Quarter and weekend market are close by, too.
Akaroa is a working harbour village on Banks Peninsula, settled by the French in 1840, and it wears that history in the street names, the architecture, and the patisseries. It's the kind of place you park the car and don't touch again: take the kayaks out on the harbour, swim off the wharf, walk the waterfront, browse the galleries, or head out on a nature cruise to see Hector's dolphins and little penguins.
By car: Christchurch Airport is about an hour and a half away, a scenic drive over Banks Peninsula. The Four Square supermarket and the well-known Akaroa butcher are a two-minute drive or a 10-minute walk --- easy to stock up on arrival.

Works well for families who want room to spread across three levels, groups in for a wedding or a long weekend, and couples who want a harbour view and a village they can walk. Whether you're out on the kayaks, dolphin-spotting on the water, or just working through the local patisseries, Seaview puts you a minute from the middle of Akaroa.
