The condo was really nice. The bay was beautiful and good for snorkeling. We had some sargazo issues half the time we were there, but that's to be expected. It seemed to collect right in front of our condo in the bay, so we had to walk down the beach a little bit to get in the water. Not a problem. In august, the water is like a hot bath, but that's also to be expected. We stayed in the penthouse, 4 flights of stairs gave us a workout. Both of the bedrooms have an ocean view deck in the center units, that was the main selling point. The only real drawback has to do with the surrounding neighborhood. Everything closes no later than 9pm, Everything. It's crazy. It's a great low key couples or loner place, but if you want any kind of night life, stay in Playa. We wanted to stay in between Tulum and Playa, and close to cenotes, so we chose Akumal. Playa del Carmen was fine, Tulum kinda sucked. The cenotes near by were a nice cool respite from the warm ocean waters.
Would I come back to Akumal? Probably not, but not because of the Playa Caribe, it was really nice. However, we qshould have stayed on a lower floor.
One thing to note: we tried to contact both of the contacts on the info sheet in the condo via Whatsapp as recommended, but they never responded.
