Surprise Vaca
Childhood friends( considered family) Gathered together for a surprise from 3 different states(CT, RI and MO)for another's engagement celebration. Owners are wonderful, place is a hidden gem to make great memories! It's truly a beautiful place and booking is as smooth as silk. Absolutely 5 🌟 stars all around.

Retired Farm House in the Mountains
If you’re looking to get away from it all, this is the spot! Huge and quaint property that’s far from the beaten path while still offering relatively easy access to local attractions. Close to fishing, kayaking and Natural Bridge state park.

Wonderful Cottage
A wonderful stay at the cottage with our extended family. The house was very clean and James was great to work with. We enjoyed a visit to the Natural Bridge, the swinging bridge and ice cream at James River Drip in Buchanan.

Beautiful Mountain Retreat
We planned a mutual vacation with family with the main purpose of having our respective children build their relationship. The property was beautiful, and the home was well maintained. It was very quiet and peaceful, which was much needed. Everything in the house was immaculate, clean, and had everything necessary to make it our home base during our time there. The property was in close proximity to cool places like Buchanan, the Natural Bridge State Park, and Caverns at Natural Bridge (15-20 min. Drive). Everyone had a great time!

A Cozy Spot
We had a short stay here at this cozy cottage in the beautiful Shenandoah. The drive was so beautiful and the cottage was very inviting after a long drive. The beds were comfortable, and we had everything we needed. Our kids were thrilled that there were games, and we enjoyed the nature and peaceful property. Thank you so much!

Lovely Home
We took a girls trip to Roanoke and stayed here. It is a lovely home in the middle of nowhere. James is very responsive and easy to talk to. Plenty of room to visit and play games.

Lovely Stay
We came for a small vacation for the family. My family consisting of my husband, daughter and son-in-law, their 2 daughters ages 2 1/2 and 2 months. And my son and his partner. The cottage was lovely, very clean and each family had their own bathroom. My only regret was the outside street lights which prevented us from using our telescopes.All in all it was a nice stay. Thank you.

We all had an amazing experience during an over-night pit stop with our family at this beautiful farm house. Pictures don’t do enough justice to this place. Jim and Shirley decorated the place very tastefully - kept farm house look and still seemed like we were living in the Victorian era - beautiful art work and needlework all around the house. Jim was very welcoming and ensured we were all ok when we got into the house. Our grandkids had a blast and want to go back there again. Don’t go there expecting to go to nearby sightseeing - more to enjoy the serenity, bird watching, deer watching, strolling in the woods on gravel pavement, etc etc. Overall, we give an A Plus for our stay at this location.

Great place!
This place was fantastic. It was clean and exactly as described. We all wished we had a few more days to stay here instead of just overnight. The only downside was the road getting there was dirt. As a group of motorcycles, we wish we had known ahead of time. However, the road was in very good condition.

Peaceful getaway
Beautiful property away from the hustle of everyday life. It was so nice to get away from the daily demands of emails, texts, and phone calls. This property has everything you need to relax. The owners are friendly and helpful with whatever you need. Boat ramp to launch kayaks within a 10 minutes drive. Large property for yard games or just to sit and vibe with nature.

Quiet, beautiful property
This property was a welcome break from the hustle of the surrounding area. My family and I stayed here to attend my son's wedding at Natural Bridge State Park and it was very convenient to the venue, but yet in the country enough to be such a peaceful environment. The house was spacious and had everything we needed. The host communicated before and during our stay to make sure everything was in place for a nice stay. Highly recommend!

Quaint and secluded
This house was a halfway meeting point for me and the rest of my family to have a weekend together. It’s very private and has plenty of space for everyone. The property owners made check in/out very simple. If you are looking for up to date, modern luxury, this isn’t for you. If you want off the beaten path in a woodsy setting then you’ve found what you are looking for. Word to the wise, stop at the store on your way in, a grocery store is almost an hour away. I didn’t give it a perfect score in the individual categories because I was unaware of just how far away from everything it actually is and didn’t see that explained in the listing. I gave it only 4 stars for cleanliness also because there was a lot of dust. It’s a very big house and would be tough to keep dust free and did not effect us much. Overall, 5 stars and would recommend to anyone.

Nice Historic Farmhouse
Very lovely farmhouse in an extremely remote area. Many deer around, and a nice creek. Hosts were very responsive and the house has all you may need-peace, a kuerig coffee maker, and ample, comfortable rooms.

Great house layout
Got to experience snow on day of checkout which made the stay in the cottage memorable! Drive to the place is a little far and really secluded. Parking is across the house, a very short walk but a challenge since our party has an elderly who has difficulty in walking and going up the steps to the house. Property owner don't require u to do a lot of cleanup etc, just trash which is very cool unlike other properties requiring u to take sheets out etc. Communication is good. Kitchen loaded with just about everything u need. No spring/creek btw. There are lady bugs getting into the house (I knew at time of booking based on other reviews) as not all windows are screened. The layout of the house worked really well for us. Overall, a great stay.

Brown Family and Friends Hokie Football Weekend
Amazing property and host. Beautiful renovated farmhouse not too far from Blacksburg for a family and friends football gathering. Easy to get to from interstate. Well equipped. We loved the deck outside with the cool temperatures and propane fire pit. Couldn’t have asked for a better home and the host was so accommodating to all our special Hokie requests. We will be back!!

Remote Getaway!
Our family chose this rental so that we could enjoy the activities surrounding The Natural Bridge. We also enjoyed hiking around the property :). The owners are kind and easy to stay in touch with. We felt more like family than strangers. The beds and linens were comfortable and the inside of the house was very clean. The outside needs some attention, but they explained it was a work-in-progress in the information binder at the house and we didn't mind. We are not cat owners and upon entrance, the house did have a cat scent but not enough to stir up our allergies! We were a bit disappointed that the "hot tub" listed was actually a jetted tub in the master bathroom, but our daughters still enjoyed swimming in the big bath :). They've done a wonderful job updating this old farmhouse and we had a great weekend!

Great getaway from suburban life and noise. Beautiful house blends old and modern style well. Check in and out couldn't get anymore simpler, loved the top porch swing at night listening to nothing but nature it was a great change from hearing highway traffic all night.

Beautiful Home
When I’m looking for a rental I always rely heavily on the photos. The photos of this property wowed me, and it’s just as lovely in person. The home is nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. It’s a large home but still feels cozy. Our favorite spot was the sitting room outside the primary bedroom. We had family movie nights and cuddled on the couches. The tv doesn’t get many channels, so bring your favorite DVD’s or you can do Redbox in town. Jim (the owner) was very accommodating. He answered questions almost immediately and even managed to put a Keurig in the house upon request. The house is very well appointed and you shouldn’t need to buy anything except groceries. We really enjoyed our trip to Buchanan. If we come back to the area I would definitely love to stay at this property again.

If you want to escape the busy life, this property is great for that.
This home is great for multiple families. We stayed here for a softball tournament and was nice to come back to the quiet house. Each family had their own bathroom, which was very nice. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage!

Lovely home!
My family (8 adults) stayed here for 6 nights in July. We were so pleasantly surprised by the size of this home and how comfortable we all were with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. The home was spotless and so cute! Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well-equipped. We loved that the home was so private and the setting was beautiful. The front porch with several rocking chairs was our favorite place to be for our morning coffee. In the afternoon, we enjoyed sitting on the back deck around the gas fire pit. The owners were so nice, and quickly answered any questions we had. Wonderful place to stay near the beautiful town of Buchanan.

This was the perfect location for our family vacation. The house was quaint, peaceful, and close to all the places we wanted to visit. Wonderful place!
We had a lovely stay at the Cottage at Springwood! The property is gorgeous, and the home is so cozy and pretty. Jim and Sherry were amazing in offering suggestions about where to eat, vineyards in the area, dog friendly spots and more. They also went out of their way to help us when we got stuck in the snow on our way out!... Such friendly people, great private location, and lots to do in the area. Highly recommend!!

Best place we have ever rented!
We had our annual family New Year’s holiday here and it is by far the favorite of many we have tried in the past. We had a groups of 8 adults with all our children with us. Beautiful home in a happily situated “holler” as we called it. The privacy, quiet and nature all around was a great escape from Northern Virginia, which we all desperately needed. The house is truly stocked with just about everything you would ever need. We did have visiting ladybugs, which the owners are up front and honest about, but no one in our family minded that. Great tasting water as well! You must hike up the road directly behind the house and wander the property for peaceful woods and views of the beautiful Shenandoah spreading out around you! All of our children asked to go back to Jim abs Sherry’s place as soon as we can. We hope to do just that!
