We're always sad when guests stay quiet then post about problem(s) in a post-stay reviews rather than allowing us to fix the problem(s). Of course we would have sent our cleaners back in, if we had been told the floor was not properly cleaned. On inspection after check-out I did find 1 broken tile (not tiles) and apologize that the air conditioner had a condensation leak. In fact it was repaired the day after these guests checked out on 4 January. Unfortunately, it was impossible to get a technician in between Christmas and New Year when the problem became apparent. Also, we apologize about any cockroaches, but hope you do keep bug spray under every sink for targeted spraying. Cairns and surrounds is a tropical paradise re: biodiversity, which includes insects of all kinds. We are also an eco-accredited, low-rise complex with composting, worm farms and gardens on all sides. Many insects, including cockroaches do live in our garden and worm farms and it is inevitable that one or two may come in if doors or windows are left open and/or food waste is left out in the open. We really suggest that guests that cannot live with the odd insect in their apartment do not book at City Terraces. We are not prepared to use heavy sprays and chemicals to kill all insects and really appreciate guests who are similarly eco-minded. By the way, cockroaches do a great job breaking down food waste along with our worms. Again we are sorry that the guests did not bother to tell us of any of these problems during their stay.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. Next time please tell us if your floor isn't properly cleaned. We do get fine dark dust collecting on the balconies and atrium garden, when planes are flying overhead, which shows up against the cream tiles when tracked in from outside, as for a safe we do have a big one in our office and are happy to store guests' valuables there. Anyway, we appreciate that besides the points mentioned above you had a great stay. :)

We apologize about the cockroaches. If you had told us during your stay we would have delt with them. Unfortunately, in the wet tropics, when it is raining, if the patio sliding doors or windows are left open insects do come in. In future, when in the wet tropics, I suggest you ask for rooms that do not open onto gardens and book in the dry rather than rainy season.We hope you enjoyed the reef and beautiful rain forest while you were here.Kind regards,

This guest cancelled within 24 hours of arrival and was unhappy we would not refund for what in effect was a no show. This guest did not actually stay with us, so is not actually giving us a review on our accommodation. Clearly he did not read the terms and conditions on Expedia when he made the booking. We did say we would offer a good discount if he rebooks,

Thank you Dave for your good review. Yes, top floor apartments are quieter than 1st floor. I believe you had a family with young kids above you. I can say that most of the time noise from above is not a problem. We are glad you had a good stay.

Thank you for your kind words. We love having Japanese guests :) As you noted, the fixed shower heads are not as convenient. We are gradually renewing our shower hoses to make them easier for guests.

Yes, not everyone realises that most self contained holiday apartments only offer a weekly service, though we can offer a daily service to guests who are willing to pay extra. Actually, our two bedroom apartments come with washing machines and dryers, so it is only the guests in our 1 bedroom apartments that need to use the common laundry and pay AU $4 to wash and $4 for to dry a full load. Part of the reason we supply 6 towels in each 1B/Room Apartment and 12 in the 2/BRoom apartments is so that guests do not have to wash very often.

Thank you for your comments. Yes, that apartment is overdue for a major refurbishment, so we will bring this up with the owner. We've also transitioned to new contract cleaners, so will address the cleaning issues with them. Also, we use Ezi-web as the wifi provider, so will see if we can get the monitoring by them removed. We certainly do not do any monitoring from our end. Finally, if you come back let us know, as I'd like to put you in one of our refurbished units on a higher floor, which really are much nicer.
