Loved the setting so much - we returned the next week!
After an amazing first week in Val D’Orcia, we decided it was too beautiful a destination to be leaving so soon, and returned for a 2nd week. It’s hard to decide which of Gaia’s two lovely villas we preferred. They are both perfect in their own way.
This villa sits on a gentle slope in the valley of the Orcia river at the intersection of three dramatic hills - each topped with an ancient castle and village. It’s stunning view of hilltop Rocca D’Orcia - complete with forest, vineyards and pasture land in between - make the setting of this property a perfect 10. The evening sunsets are breathtaking.
The beautiful old stone farmhouse has the charm of history with vaulted ceilings, fireplaces, and lovely eating areas both inside and out. The bedrooms are well appointed and have luxurious and comfortable beds, and each has it’s own gorgeously renovated, contemporary bathroom for complete privacy. Screens on the windows allow the Tuscan breeze to flow.
The pool was amazing - another highlight of this property. The grounds were beautifully landscaped, and with 40 acres, there was lots to explore. We fell in love with the horses and the donkey - especially the donkey.
We count ourselves very lucky that Gaia, the property owner, was so accommodating. While we had booked her neighboring villa well in advance for our first week in Italy, our second week was supposed to be spent at another villa in a different area. When we arrived at that desitination it was not what it was advertised to be. We immediately contacted Gaia to see if her adjacent property was available.
There is so much to explore in this area with fascinating destinations in all directions, scenic drives and stunning natural thermal baths nearby. We want to thank Gaia for being so accommodating on such short notice. She rescued our vacation and shared two most amazing villas with us.
A wonderful villa, perfect setting, and in an area so rich in beauty and history - we are sure to return!
