When we arrived, I was asked for photo ID. When I asked why, the young lady at reception told me it was for the security of the property. I am 70 years old and have never been asked for photo ID in any New Zealand hotel or motel – yes in North Korea, Cuba and Vietnam but never in New Zealand.
Things got even worse when there was no parking at the motel – I was told to park in the street 100 or so metres from our room. They threatened to tow my car away if I left it in within the motel area. You can’t excuse this lack of parking by saying that I was emailed just prior to arrival to say that there may not be parking – I had already made my booking.
Needless to say, the group I was with did not use the restaurant at all for the days we were there because of the above appalling treatment.
