Great views in the rooms that open to the deck. The available services including laundry, gym and sauna are great. ”

“Comfortable beds, but very loud all night in parking lot with snowmobiles. Breakfast was waffles or microwave sandwiches as warm options. Juice machine broke so only coffee and an empty milk machine as alternative.”

“The staff was wonderful. There was a huge blizzard and the city lost power…. They staff was super helpful and kind. My car got stuck in the snow and the staff helped me to be calm about the whole thing. They were wonderful! Regarding the room, the food, etc, the hotel was very nice as I expected. Karl”

“I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. The property is always immaculately clean, modern, and well-maintained. The staff is friendly. The rooms are comfortable, with just enough kitchen supplies...
