We stayed here a night since we were attending the Canso Stanfest, so it was the best option for us in terms of location! Good bed, basic continental breakfast.

The room was very nice and the service excellent. Air conditioning, even temporary, would have made the visit even more enjoyable during the recent heat wave.

Beautiful historic Manor in need of upgrading
The staff made us feel like we were guests in their own home. This historic building was beautiful in the details of another era, truly breathtaking. The biggest downfall is the lack of air conditioning in the guest rooms. This put a damper on our stay, but everything else was a great experience.

We could not check in there was no one there, tried contacting them from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, no one answered phone or text messages. Not sure if I’ll get my money refunded still waiting to see.

Good Day Jackie , i received this review today, i want to let you know firstly that your card was NEVER charged. when you contacted DesBarres via Facebook - we did respond and someone was sent to check you in. when they arrived at the inn they called you directly and you were already on route to another facility, we are so sorry that this happened, we never received notification from Expedia until 9:31pm that day and were totally unware of your booking. and the booking was processed via Expedia at 4:45pm or so with them.- so as you can see we were totally unaware of any booking or we would have been there to greet you as we do our guests . once again we are sorry that this happened.

Historic House with antique furniture and artwork was really nice. Whole house smelled like it needed a thorough cleaning. Some missing fixtures in our room. Some boards on the deck looked like they were rotting and needed replacement.

Relaxing week end in Guysborough
We stayed two nights and had a lovely dinner there on our first evening. Breakfast was included and provided a choice of cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. and also offered bacon, eggs and toast. Staff was pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the gazebo / patio where we could enjoy a glass of wine after dinner (or anytime). We particularly enjoyed our room was very large and perfectly decorated.

Beautiful old hotel, excellent staff. Food was fantastic. Building does need some upkeep in the roof and upper floors and some of the carpets. As others have noted there is no coffee in the rooms and no elevator so be prepared to carry your bags up the stairs. Love the ambience, staff and rooms. Will definitely stay there again.

Not so happy
The people staffing the Inn were fantastic and very responsive to our needs. We ate dinner at the Inn and both the meal and the service were terrific. On the other hand, we felt that, for the price we paid for a room, the facility fell short in a number of ways: 1. The ad for the Inn boasted free WIFI. There was, but only on the main floor. We could not access the Internet in our room. 2. The room was not equipped with a coffee maker 3. The room was not equipped with a refrigerator 4. The door to our room squeaked very loudly when opened or closed and had to be forced closed and open because it jambed in the doorframe. We have the feeling that the owner(s) are cutting costs while keeping prices high, all at the detriment to the customer.

We are very sorry that you experienced these problems, we are addressing the WIFI issue and we have experienced seriously damage to our system recently and are trying desperately to correct this issue. 2/3. none of our rooms have coffee makers or refrigerators nor does it say that we do in any of our ads, if our guests need to refrigerate anything we do our best to accommodate. 4. we will certainly have to door looked at immediately. and as for the towel rack, things like that happen over night, and will have it fixed as well. once again we apologize for these inconveniences

Charming Inn with great opportunity for conversation and interaction with other guests and owners. Food and drink in dining room was good - home cooked meal. Staff is exceptionally helpful and accommodating.

Very accomadating and friendly staff. The supper and breakfast we had there were very good. The lack of air conditioning during a heat wave was noticeable, so impacted the quality of sleep during an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Like Home
This was a stop on the way to the Cabot Trail. It is a spacious, well-appointed country house with a warm welcome. You do not have to go out to dinner, because Anna serves a delicious choice and there is also a bar. Breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast from 8:00 – 10:00 gets you on your way again, or you can stay a while longer. The bed is comfortable, but bedside lamps are too dim to read by, so bring your own light. Water pressure in the shower is weak, but the tub is deep by American standards. WiFi/Internet is weak & slow. There are beautiful antique prints, birds and botanicals, on the walls.

Actually beautiful, well-maintained, friendly staff, huge rooms with truly beautiful period furniture. The only downside was the need for air conditioning in the unusually hot weather, and I guess, to be picky, the lack of coffee in the rooms because breakfast isn't until 8 a.m.

we totally understand the heat issue, as you are right it is unusually hot here at that time. as for the coffee in the rooms, the girls would gladly get you a coffee before 8am if they are in the kitchen. something to remember on your next visit.

Very much like what were looking for - An old Inn. Staff was great and while the room was pleasant, no air conditioning (+29C when we were there), no fridge or coffee maker. Breakfast was included. We checked out a day early as little to do in Guysborough. Our fault for not checking further prior to booking. Inn was nice enough not to charge us for 2nd night booking when we left.

We are working on the issue of no air conditioner in the rooms, this may take awhile but we are addressing it . Guysborough is a quite village, many seek out the tranquil setting. Hope you enjoy the remainder of your travels here in Nova Scotia.

Yes Guysborough is a small place large with history, it is surprising how many can trace family roots back to here. DesBarres is a perfect place to relax, and re-charge.
