“Our room was beautiful. It had a king size bed and the en-suite bathroom was a good size. The only downside was that the toilet flush handle was broken but still worked. It could have done with better lighting in the bathroom as you couldn’t see in the mirror very well. The room was immaculately clean and had a sofa and tv with easy to connect to WiFi. Personally I struggled with comfort of the bed as I found it too soft but it was dressed with clean sheets and had extra pillows in the wardrobe....

“The property was seeped in history. We stayed in room 3, the Kings room. A lovely compact room, spotless with lovely little touches such as a great selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate, a fresh little bottle of milk, a comfy bed, feather duvet, black out curtains, great shower and toiletries. “Exceptional hospitality. Staff were particularly friendly and attentive. Location suited us - not too far from Durham city centre, but particularly convenient for our visits to Beamish and Tanfield Railway. Room was clean and well-appointed. Food was amazing! Superb breakfast with good choice. Dinner menu was unbelievable (not available on Sunday evening. Highly recommended.”

“Our stay at the Westgate Manor was one of the best hotel experiences we have had. Hosts, Stuart and Kathryn give a very high standard of personal service to us and made our short stay memorable. The Manor offers fantastic accommodation and a truly wonderful experience with young dear in the garden in the early morning and three peacocks roaming around! We will be back. Thank you.”

“Ideal single apartment adjacent to a busy local in a wonderful St John’s Chapel, Weardale location..with very close proximity to the ‘top of the world’ (Noah’s View Point) Road across to Teesdale. Good pub food and a couple of real ales… Just what was needed after a long drive!”

“A lovely setting with a picturesque and historic building. Rooms are either in the castle itself or in the attached wing, which seems to be slightly more modern. The bathroom is highly modern, the room less so. Overall very comfortable and well appointed. Not entirely soundproofed (corridor sounds, doors closing and some talking). Excellent dining - i enjoyed the lamb moussaka and had a great glass of Shiraz with it. Nice staff, attentive service. ”
