The space
A house with a story to tell. Part of a large stone-built historic townhouse (one of four apartments) first built back in the late 1800s by Ottomans who used to live in Crete. The apartment is a newly renovated messonaite on two levels (total size ~75 sqm) with the kitchen/dining area and a bathroom with a bath downstairs. The upper level comprises a double bedroom with a built-in wooden bed base, the living room with additional dining space and a walk-in wardrobe space, and an additional bathroom with a power shower. There is also a small balcony upstairs. The apartment sleeps up to 5 people, with a queen bed in the bedroom and a double sofa bed and a sofa in the living room. Both the sofa bed and sofa are of very high quality and full double and single bed size, respectively. The townhouse has a common yard/patio which is on two levels. Guests will have use of a dedicated space on the upper-level terrace with its own table and chairs. The house offers a fully equipped kitchen, a high-pressure shower (rare for Heraklion), constant hot water, and a smart TV allowing one to view video streaming services like Netflix and a washing machine. As the restoration has just been completed, everything is brand new. A number of original features have been maintained (e.g. kitchen floor tiles and an antique wardrobe). The space is full of character with very elegant construction like wooden floors and ceiling beams. The ceilings are very high which is characteristic of older building construction; the space is very far from being an apartment in a "standard building block". It makes one feel like they are on a small and quiet Greek island while being in the centre of Crete's capital city; it is in one of the most historical neighborhoods of the town with no car traffic due to the narrow streets offering the feeling of being in a village; the house used to belong to an ottoman family and changed hands during the population exchange between Turkey and Greece following the unification of Crete with Greece in early 1900s.
Car parking options (both free-public or paid-private) are available within a few mins walk from the house.
Guest access
The guests can use the entire apartment as well as the dedicated terrace space. There is also a stone-built bench with cushions that can be used on the ground level patio area.
Other things to note
Please note that our house cannot be directly accessed by car. However, vehicles can come within 15-20 meters of the house, and from there, a small traditional street similar to those found in old towns must be followed. The house is located in one of the historic neighborhoods of the city center, where the streets are narrow and there is no car traffic. As with any city center, street parking is limited. Nevertheless, there are several options a few minutes walk from the house, including a large, free car park operated by the city council, which is ~300 meters away, and a low-cost paid parking area within a few minutes walk.
