Great House, Great Location

The house was clean, roomy, and pet friendly. It is also gorgeous, yet comfortable. You don't feel like you are in someone else's million dollar plus home, you feel like you are in your own home. Located steps to the beach, along with the pool, makes this house a great get away. I didn't want to leave. Highly recommended!

Poorly Maintained House

Check-in was no issue. However, the code for the beach gate was wrong and we had to wait all day for the correct code to access the beach. We wasted a whole day! Wi-Fi was very slow and the Hargrave technician did show up until three days later. He couldn’t fix the issue as the owners only pay for a min. Package at the lowest speed. So I had to go to Starbucks to download and stream my work. Then cockroaches showed up in the kitchen and bedroom. Huge ones! Unacceptable again! Outdoor and fixtures very old and poorly maintained. Not worth the money spent.

Intergenerational gem

Took an intergenerational family trip with ages ranging 5 to 83. The spaces were perfect for that set up. Checking in and out were simple and the property manager was very communicative and responsive. The property has everything you need including size and location, but it’s a bit tired with obvious but not-a-big-deal maintenance and cleaning issues. The turnover cleaning was fine, but those once a month type deeper cleanings definitely needed a more frequent rotation (dust, grime on high touch surfaces and faucets, hinges and doors off track/alignment, peeling/cracked wall finishes). The property manager took note and was willing to fix during our visit, but with a short stay we declined as they weren’t materially impacting our stay. Overall I’d still recommend this property.

A Few Issues, but Enjoyed Our Stay

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the house. I had family members from different states all come together and stay in the house. There were eleven of us total and my dog. Unfortunately the first thing I noticed when I pulled up to the house was the large amount of trash that was apparently left from the people before us. There were beach toys and such in an unorganized pile outside near the bottom of the stairs leading up to the house. The propane tank was empty when we arrived and the stove/oven did not work. Someone had left portable burners on top of the stove for us to use, so I assumed that they were aware that the stove itself was not working. I didn't arrive until later on Saturday evening, so I called Sunday morning and did speak with someone about the propane and the stove/oven. They did send someone over with a new propane tank within a few hours and they told us that someone would be over to check the stove/oven. I was sent a text message apologizing for the inconvenience and told that they would reimburse us for lunch that day. I asked when someone would be there to check the stove/oven and was told a part was ordered and should be there within a day or two. No one ever came to fix it. We ended up eating out at least once or twice every day, which was not what I wanted to do because it's obviously more expensive. I was told that they would reimburse me for meals until the issue was resolved. Since it never was, I sent receipts to the email address I was given. I was reimbursed a portion of what I submitted. The furniture outside could definitely use some upgrades. One of the chair cushions even had a hole from a cigarette burn. The only other issue was the amount of scum built up along the bottom of the shower walls in the master bathroom. Other than those issue, we enjoyed our stay at Hilton Head and in the house. The pool was great!

A lot of potential

By reading the past reviews we were willing to try this listing out since the it had been some time since the last review. This house has so much potential but stays at the “bare minimum” required for renting. Or it appears that the owner maintains just enough to get by. It has a great location and lots of room on the property. It’s somewhat still outdated with vcrs and corded phones and a stereo. The carpet desperately needs to be replaced (there was what appeared to be fresh dog pee upstairs in one of the bedrooms) along with the bathroom tile (cracked and some kind of weird brown paint/stain.) The shower portions in the downstairs guest bath and upstairs guest bath would not work. There were stains all over the bedding in one of the bedrooms upstairs. The closet in the guest bedroom was completely off the track hanging (we attempted to fix it.) The trim in the house is damaged (like a dog tried to chew it). The porch steps in front and the back of the house are very worn and loose. The pool was filthy when we arrived along with toys etc scattered everywhere and the pool net used to clean the pool has a huge hole in it so it completely defeats the purpose of using it. The pool patio really needs a good deep clean. We only had one large trash bag (that was placed in the can prior to our arrival) but couldn’t find anymore in the house. So BYOT( bring your own trash bags.) Overall it was an okay stay. We LOVE Hilton Head but will stay somewhere else next time.

Exceeds expectations!

This was a perfect home and location for our family. It was far more than we needed and beyond our expectations! With all of the reviews I was nervous that the house would not be clean or up-to-date. It was absolutely spotless and beyond our expectations. The house is much bigger then we expected! We are so thankful we stayed at this location. It is a short walk from the beautiful private beach and ocean, the neighborhood is perfect for bike riding, and the pool was just what our family needed! When we had questions/needs, the staff were quick to respond. Highly recommend:) If the price is right, we will be renting again!

Big Beautiful House

This house is great for a large family. The house was very comfortable and clean. The outside could use some cleaning and upkeep. It is private but in an ideal location to get where you need to go in HHI! You cannot beat the short walk to the beach. It's just down the road! The pool was very nice and the outdoor area was wonderful for relaxing. We had a nice stay.

Disappointing vacation!

Dirty house… unloved for sure. Holes in couch and living room chairs. Outside porch and walls filthy. Extra charge for dogs is unacceptable. Not dog friendly — no fence!

Property needs work

We were very disappointed with the condition of this house upon arrival. Quite honestly, it needs so much attention that it should not be on the rental market until things are taken care of. It needs a complete overhaul inside and out. Cleanliness issues inside and out. Power washing, exposed irrigation lines throughout front yard, walkway from drive, and front and rear steps are all in need of attention. The home was not clean upon arrival, holes in furniture, dishwasher broke the first time we used it and the air conditioning went out. The property manager tended to each of our calls, however the overall condition of this home is unsatisfactory. Walking proximity to the beach was great and the kids enjoyed the pool.

Change of Pace

Loved the location - very convenient to beach, restaurants, bike trails. Furnishings need some updates for torn upholstery, bedspreads with holes (found a better blanket to replace one with holes). In spite of this, we thoroughly enjoyed out stay.

So close to being great; or not!

We had a good vacation. The location of this house is excellent! The layout is great! There were four in our group so we had plenty of space. There is a pool and had it been in working order it would have been fine. I did call the management company and they did respond quickly. They sent someone to fix the pool on Monday. Waited for a part to come for Wednesday, they came late Thursday to fix the pool. Checkout on Saturday. Not great. The outside of the house needs to be power washed. The inside completely repainted. It absolutely requires new living furniture. The living room furniture had holes in it, the outside furniture was not what was in the pictures on VRBO. Outside furniture was rusted and legs were broken. I did talk to the agent and again they were responsive. Apologized, gave an explanation, and offered 10% discount on future rental. They said they would call back to see what they could do, no call! I do not want a discount on a future purchase when you haven’t delivered on my first purchase! This house could be great or if left as is, well a disaster.

We really enjoyed the house. Only two concerns: we could have used a pool skimmer to remove bugs from the pool and the showers had very low water pressure.

Wonderful Property - Property Management Challenging

This is a Wonderful property. Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and spacious and beautiful. It’s very family and kid friendly. We loved being a very short walk to the beach. Our primary challenge was getting in touch with property management. Wait times were as long as 3 hrs on the phone and so if we had any emergencies we would have been in trouble. I received a text upon arrival saying I could text needs. However, I texted numerous times over 5 days with zero response. The house only had 3 rolls of toilet paper for 3 full baths and 2 rolls of paper towels. Visitors should also bring basic spices like salt and pepper, but all other kitchen supplies were included.
