Every time we return to Sugar Beach #418, it feels like stepping into paradise. Our fourth-floor location provides both privacy and a perfect vantage point for panoramic views—Makena, Molokini, and Kaho‘olawe by day, and star-filled skies by night.

We love mornings spent watching turtles near the reef, or in winter, humpback whales with their calves playing offshore. Afternoons are made for lounging by the pool, boogie boarding, or strolling Sugar Beach’s powder-soft sand. We recently renovated with a “Hawaiiana” theme—granite counters, glass tile accents, and even a surfboard over the bar. Since we enjoy cooking, the kitchen is stocked with everything you need. We also provide free Wi-Fi, an iPod docking station, and free long-distance calls to the US and Canada.

What a view!

Overall condo is small but efficient, clean and well appointed. Pool and oceanfront lawn are great. Listening to ocean waves, priceless. Great for beach walking. If only it were located a little closer to restaurants and services. Except for the beach it is not in a locale that is conducive to walking. However, all that being said, we would come back.

First trip to Maui, perfect!!

Everything about this place was perfect! The central location was awesome, 20-30 mins either to the north or south shores of Maui. 20 minutes from the airport. The lanai was our favorite morning spot! We utilized the BBQ area many nights. The pool area is nice, with the sauna and hot tub. My only complaint would be, we paid for late check out and come back from the beach to find ourselves locked out! The company was not apologetic at all and couldn’t explain it! Aloha CA visitors

It was the perfect spot for our honeymoon. We loved the lanai and spent many hours sitting there.

We loved the property and the convenient location to shave ice, the ABC store and to the beaches. The condo was perfect and it was nice having a washer/dryer and little kitchen. We can’t wait to return!

Beautiful and Clean

My husband and I have mixed reviews regarding this condo. We visit Hawaii annually and have stayed at many different locations. I would like to say that the condo is beautiful and very clean. The lanai was nice although half of the view is cut off secondary to the wall, which is a design thing. Having central air conditioning was fantastic. Parking plentiful. Here is why I can only give the condo 3 stars; The mattress was hard as a rock so we went to Target and purchased a $200 foam mattress cover. Problem fixed! We left it there so hopefully the owner keeps it there! We read a review that raved about how comfortable the bed was, so we assumed that couple was probably in their 20s or 30s! ;) The "luxury linens" was an exaggeration. The management company was interesting. So here is what happened...we stayed on the west side for a week before moving to this condo. On the day of check-in I received several calls inquiring about what time we would be arriving. I told them we are driving from the west side and would be there about 4:00. We hit traffic and arrived 20 minutes after 4. As is the case with most condos we went directly to the front office to check-in when I received a rude phone call from the "aloha greeter" upstairs asking "where are you?" and then telling me I should have gone to the room first to check-in. I don't remember reading that anywhere. Upon entering the condo, he did not smile, say hello or welcome us in any way. He didn't even tell us his name. Perhaps he was stressed or having a bad day but it was the most unfriendly "aloha" welcome ever! So sadly our experience there started out negatively. The other staff was friendly but we will most likely not stay at that condo again. Central Texas

Loved This Beautiful Home Away From Home

My husband and I have stayed in several vacation condos over our travels and we look for that home away from home feeling as well as accomodations that live up to the advertised amenities. Unit #418 was everything we were looking for and more. We loved morning coffee and an evening glass on wine on the lanai. We enjoyed walking Sugar Beach just steps from our door and loved the pool and BBQ area. The unit was clean, comfortably furnished and had everything we needed to make our stay complete. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. North Kihei is a great location if you prefer to be out of the crowds but close enough to get there when you want shop or eat out. We especially loved that a short walk down the beach led to awesome shave ice, a fresh farmers' market and the ABC store for last minute purchases. The resort staff was friendly and efficient so we could not have asked for more from our week in paradise. We hope to be back next year!

Beautifully remodeled unit in a great location

I have stayed in several dozen condos on Maui, and this is one of the nicest units I have seen. New owners remodeled it, and the interior is beautiful. The service from Alii Resorts is the best I have experienced from any property manager. The stay was very comfortable and easy. I love the Sugar Beach location. It is centrally located, so a short drive to most places of interest, and you can walk out the door and walk literally for miles on the beach right in front.

Uncomfortable, old, economy resort convieniently located in Kihei (South) Maui

I'm writing this review on day 21 of a 21 day stay in Maui. We booked Sugar Beach Condos for 10 nights, and left after 8. I would never stay in this room, or at this resort ever again. Sugar Beach resort was probabaly really cool in 1978, when the resort was built. The resort itself is seriously outdated and uncomfortable. The resort was understaffed and it was difficult to locate the main office. The check-in instructions were overly complicated and silly. You had to use a code pad to enter and exit the swimming pool...and use a different, longer, code to use the pool bathroom. Overall, the pool and hottub were nice...but the furniture and BBQ grills were old, dirty and uncomfortable. We found ourselves pulling chairs over to the grass to face the ocean shore, rather than look at the the pool and resort itself. The unit was dirty and old. How it represents in the photos does not fit real life. It failed on all 3 essential fronts...the lanai furniture was awful - old, rusty and uncomfortable. The bed was a dealbreaker. Awful, awful and so awful. We had to take the foam mattress out of the sofa bed and pile it on top of the bed to be able to sleep halfway decently. This, of course, required a booster chair to get into the bed - now that it was 4 feet tall. The kitchen was dirty and old and poorly equipped. Sometimes you don't have a good "feeling" about a place...and this condo was one of those places. The long stretch of beach in front of the condo was nice...but often too rough or windy to swim/snorkel. Kihei itself was also pretty run down and old...we found ourselves going on 5, 6 and 7 hour long outings just to not be in the condo or at the resort, or in the town (it's ridiculously "normally" windy here). We ended up leaving 2 days early just to stay somewhere different. Overall, this stay was a disappointment. If you are looking for economy lodging in a sort of busy area near the 2 main highways...this might suit you really well.
