“Interesting experience. There is no on-site staff, but the building is in excellent (restored) condition. You let yourself in with the door code and then you’re on your own. The on-site restaurant is not operating, so we drove a couple miles for dinner. We made breakfast from what was on site. Thankfully there was no noise from the railroad outside. We’ll be back.”

“Property was clean, well maintained and hosts were available without being at all intrusive. Wonderfully located on the river with a beautiful deck, this was a perfect peaceful getaway. There is nothing to do here except relax, enjoy the river/deck and rest, which is exactly why we were there. Strong internet connection was a plus. Access to the river was available and if you're into fishing/floating the river, this location is perfect for that.”

“Very unique. It's a step back in time. Don't expect modern resort but you will get friendly authentic service provided by local people who bend over backwards to fulfill your needs and interests. Dufur is a very small old rural historical town in, what some would call, the middle of nowhere. If you want seclusion and enjoy country walks or bike rides and meeting really interesting people the Balch Hotel is for you as it was for us. The people really are fantastic. “We were there for a wedding in hood river. This was a perfect location to stay as we wanted a little peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the wedding. The town has some great bars and restaurants which made it good for not having to traverse the bridge to hood river too often. We will stay again if in the area ”
