“We frequently choose older motels that cost less. We look closely at their photos, and if it looks updated and clean we choose it. Usually we find it is owned/managed by an immigrant family, frequently from the Subcontinent, and they do an excellent job with the older property. The Royal Inn in Hudson, Wis., is such a place. It was very clean, the air conditioning worked well on a hot day, parked right in front of our room. Convenient location.”

“Room met expectations as far as bed comfort and cleanliness for a budget stay. But the alarm clock in the room had the wrong time by an hour and 20 minutes and guests can't reset the clock - only can set an alarm, so it was not a useful device. The refillable soap dispenser in the bathroom was out of soap - so we had to use the bar soap. there was no 'Do Not Disturb' card available for the room.
