  • Wolf’s Lair is one of our Payne Lake Wilderness Huts, located by famous fishing lake. It is perfect for little weekend getaway for your much needed break form everyday life and relax in the nature. There are walk path, bike path, pickle ball court, half basketball court and frisbee golf course on 160 acreage property and only one minute walk to the lake. Saskatoon berries are the bonus in summer season. It is 15 minutes away from Waterton international park and a lot to do in all season.

Very cute! I loved the outdoor spaces! A short trip to Waterton and nice to come back to after a day of hiking. Host was great communicator. Better directions or map for the site would be a great addition.

We enjoyed staying at the wilderness hut. Great location and great that we were able to bring our dog with us.

Overall good place to stay while visiting Watertown Park. There are enough beds but the space was a little tight for 4 adults. The shower and extra toilets were nearby but might be an issue for some people.

We had a fantastic weekend. The accommodations had everything we needed, the best were comfortable and the cabin was clean. All areas were well kept and the scenery was next to none.

The property was very clean and accommodating. There was so much to do with the family that was walking distance from our cabin. Any questions that came up were answered right away. Will definitely come again!!!

Wonderful stay

My mother, my sister and I spent a lovely 3 nights in the Wolf Lair cabin. It is well equipped, has comfortable beds and perfectly situated near Waterton. We walked the trail nearby, played pickleball and took a canoe out for a paddle on the lake.

Cute little cabin. Very basic but close to Waterton which is what is really important. Host is great to deal with, very quick responses.

Family trip to Waterton

Our stay in the Wilderness Lodge was perfect. It had beautiful views, the people were nice, it was dog friendly and it was very close to the Waterton NP. Also the playground was awesome and not just for kids. There was also a canoe we could use to go out on the lake and view the beautiful sunset.

Our Mountain View trip

The host was awesome from start to finish. The property/ cabin is a cute oasis to use as a base for our time in waterton. I would without hesitation recommend this property to friend and family. My husband and I will definitely be staying here again.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet ... this is the place. Clean cabin. Everything you would need to make your stay enjoyable. Will recommend and come back at our earliest opportunity.

Clean, modern cabin in a lovely campground

I surprised my partner with 2 nights in a cabin near Waterton for his birthday (around 30 mins away). We loved our stay. The cabin is clean, modern, and full of amenities. The AC was a nice touch. We also loved the campground - it’s full of friendly families who own the lots and it was only steps away from Payne Lake. Would definitely stay again.

Waterton Oasis

Beautiful cabin just outside of Waterton Park (which was nice as we only had to pay for a parks pass for part of our trip). My boyfriend and I had an amazing time. Our unit had everything that we needed. With a 5 minute walk, you can watch the sunset over the lake behind the mountains. Will definitely be staying here again.

This place is super cute and would be the perfect place to bring a family to, especially with the awesome outdoor obstacle course. The only downside is the water had a musty earthy smell/ taste to it so we ended up bringing our own wate. Otherwise it was a fantastic place to stay with a well equipped kitchen with hot plate, air fryer, microwave.

Amazing views!

Our stay in the Wolf's Lair was one of the best 4 days EVER!! Payne Lake is close to Waterton Park, Red Rock Canyon, Buffalo Paddock Loop, many many hikes, and the lake itself was perfect to take a dip! We "attempted" Pickleball, shot some hoops, played Cornhole, played horseshoes and even took some time to try out the obstacles! Would definitely recommend to rent!

Charming cabin close to Waterton Lakes

We spent 2 nights at the cabin while we were visiting Waterton Lakes. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we could possibly need. It’s clean and everything looks new. The cabin is dog-friendly which we appreciated very much. It’s located in a campground but was very quiet and we could walk our dogs around the campground without other dogs running loose. It’s located in a beautiful area and our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer.

Pros: The cabin was very clean and cute, inside and out. Very good amount of kitchen appliances, cutlery, towels, bedding, coffee, and tea Loved the wolf decor, neutral palette, vinyl siding floors, and layout of the cabin. Loved the air fryer in particular. Nice storage under the stairs. Well built unit as it was sound proof. The lake was nice and playground area was fun. Cons: No ventilation or fan in the bathroom. No shower in the cabin. Showers were outside the cabin located about 3 min walk away and cost $0.25 every 30 seconds and the showers are not clean. At times the machine eats the quarters and doesn’t produce water even if you follow the rules of waiting for the machine to accept the quarter. Not convenient. The beds too soft resulting in major back pain. This hasn’t happened since Jan 2023 when I last stayed at an air bnb in Vancouver with this similar bed type. There was no tv but that’s not a big deal.

We really enjoyed staying here. Close enough to Waterton, Cameron Lake, Red Rock Canyon, and all the things we wanted to see. There's a convenience store in Mountain View, about 5 mins drive,  has gasoline, ice cream, chips, candy, etc. The kids enjoyed the playground/obstacle course and basketball. The grounds are well-maintained.  There are only a handful of "Wilderness huts" at the site. The rest are campers. We stayed in Wolf's Lair - kids shared the upstairs loft. The unit has a 1/2 bath - had handsoap but it didn't need to have shampoo and conditioner. The showers are conveniently located steps away from the unit. Not sure if it has soap/shampoo and conditioner (probably not, bring your own?) The host provided lots of kitchen and bath towels. The kitchen had everything we needed. The bbq grill on the deck, and the electric stove inside worked really great. Bring citronella to combat mosquitos if you wanna eat on the deck. The private firepit outside was lovely. Ask the host for firestarter. Lastly, the sunset on a summer day paints the lake a beautiful gold. We would stay here again.

2-day stay

This property was comfortable and well-designed to accommodate two people upstairs with some privacy and 1 person and a dog downstairs. The under-the-stairs space has storage space for luggage etc and drawers for tucking away items. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, glasses, mugs and so on, for six or more people. The two outdoor seating areas add to the sense of space. We would have used them more if we weren’t meeting with family in Waterton townsite. We didn’t make use of the showers, which are separate from unit. Highly recommend. Nearby Payne Lake is beautiful.
