“Lovely country pub with bedrooms in an annex around a pretty courtyard. Very comfortable bed, everything was spotless in the room. Ideal location for visiting Highclere Castle. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant was very good.”

The food was excellent with a special mention for the mushroom risotto which was frankly gorgeous enough to end wars.
The beer was well kept, the internet worked and there was always a parking space.

“The Pelican was a lovely place to stay on our trip; the surrounding lawns, garden, pond and brook were lovely to sit by on a warm day, and the dinner we had was really excellent. Our room was nice and had plenty of room, but was very, very warm (it faced the afternoon sun), and there is no A/C. The weather was unusually warm for England during our stay… We purchased electric fans to help with the heat and left them there for the Inn - we hope they will be made available to future guests.”

“There is parking behind the waitrose and staff walked us there after their shift had ended to ensure we understood the parking App since tomorrow is the Farmers Market on High Street and we would have to move the vehicle early. Now it’s all sorted and paid in advance. Of course it’s an older hotel and everything is crooked and settled, but you should come here for that eclectic experience, as we did. I just miss the old mural that was painted in the pub before, replaced by a more modern map. ”
