  • The Mermaid's Grotto at Nags Head
    Stunning Oceanfront Sunrise views await you at this oceanfront private home in an ideal location in Nags Head, NC. Pet friendly under 50 lbs. Just remodeled, this home sleeps 10 & features 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 1 outdoor shower. The primary bedroom is up with a private balcony to enjoy spectacular sunrise views and features a king size bed & coffee bar and private bath. The 2 story Great Room features a wall of windows, a 77" OLEG TV & gas fireplace. Ideal location with quick access to everything you need, less than 1 mile Fishheads fishing pier & restaurant. Close to the Bodie Island Lighthouse and lots of shopping, restaurants, mini golf, The Wrights Brother's Monument & Jockey's Ridge State Park. Have an electric vehicle? There are supercharging stations within 15-20 minutes of the house. The outdoor grill is charcoal on lower level & a small electric grill on back deck. Please let me know if you are celebrating a special occasion. The best photographers, in my opinion, on the island are Beth & Wes Sneider. Ask me for their contact information. For babies: There is a rocking chair in the upper-bedroom as well as both chairs in the Great Room are swivel & Rockers. I do have an infant swing stored in the bunk room closet.

Nadine was an excellent host - communications were timely and she was very responsive. The house is nicely decorated and well stocked w/paper products, soaps, and kitchen items. The location was great - close to the Oregon Inlet Fishing Pier as we as grocery stores and shops in Nags Head.

We very much enjoyed this home. The bunkroom was great for the kids. There are tons of toys, beach umbrellas, chairs etc. available. There was even a nice beach cart which was much appreciated. The kitchen is brand new and has a nice gas range. This home was completely remodeled very recently and it looks like new.The main deck is very large and there is a new grill. The upper deck has wide beach views but the lower deck is shielded by the high dunes. The recent beach sand project has added a great deal more sand in this area. We found lots of shells!

Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The host was exceptional—so helpful, responsive, and made everything feel easy from start to finish. The home itself is beautifully updated and truly felt like a home away from home.We especially loved the gorgeous sunrises and the perfect ocean view from the upper balcony—such a peaceful way to start each day. It was very family-friendly, and our girls had the best time playing games and just being together. As a mom, I really cherished sipping my coffee while taking in that amazing view.We couldn’t have asked for a better experience and would love to come back!

One of my concerns when renting via VRBO or any online service is the accuracy of the pictures in the listing. I'm sure it’s expensive to get a photographer to do that work. But to my point, these homes get a lot of use, pics don't always reflect what you're signing up for. Hosts seem to overlook how critical that piece of information is to someone trying to remotely rent a property. Pics in the listing for Mermaid's Grotto set some pretty high expectations and they were met. The property was comfortable, clean and provided some great areas to hang out for our family. The host, Nadine, was extremely adept at responding to my questions and was easy to reach at most any time. The house, too, was well equipped....from the games to the kitchen tools, to the beach gear and the initial supply of essentials. Thank You, Nadine...hope we see you at Thanksgiving !

Fantastic property. The house was well maintained and beautifully decorated. The location is perfect- right on the beach dunes, just steps from the beach. Nadine is a fabulous host, extremely responsive. I would highly recommend the property.

Nadine was amazing at communication from the time we reserved all through check out. Ocean view is only available from the master bedroom but it is set up nicely for coffee and a balcony to sit out enjoy the view. There is a protective dune that blocks the view from the main level and the access to the beach is just one house over and easy to get to. Nadine has thought of all the things one might need to have in the kitchen and there are upgrades throughout the house. We did not have any children but this house is equipped with all the necessary items and the bunk beds would be a fun room for the kids. The laundry room is filled with beach chairs and items to have fun at the beach. We spent a week with our grown kids and their spouses and did all the fun activities (aquarium, Manteo, Jockey's Ridge, Bodie Lighthouse, Spanky's, The Rundown, and other great places). Thank you for a fun-filled week!

Mermaid’s Grotto

The Mermaid’s Grotto is in a perfect location. Very easy access to the beach and lots of space to spread out on the beach. The decor of the house is fabulous and the communication with the owner was easy and quick. We would definitely recommend this beach house to family and friends and hope to return.

Great place to stay!

We really enjoyed our stay! The house was beautiful, just as it appeared in photos. Nadine was prompt getting back to us when we had a question. There really wasn't anything she didn't think of, laundry room, games, plenty of dishes and pans, comfy furniture & beds, etc. We would definitely stay there again!

Beautiful home in a great location

We loved our stay at the Mermaid’s Grotto. Spotlessly clean and very well appointed; a lovely comfortable home so well cared for by the owner. Excellent response to our questions, and we even had a beautiful doe visit us on a starlit night. Would definitely return!

What an amazing home! The location, decor, cleanliness, fully stocked kitchen, ocean/beach front, and quiet location make this a 5 Star destination. Just a short drive to Fish Heads restaurant and another 5 or so minutes to all shopping, restaurants, and entertainment Nags Head has to offer. The sunrises are something not to be missed from the primary suites balcony. Just a great way to start the day. You may find bigger, but you’ll be hard pressed to find a home that checks as many boxes as the Mermaids Grotto.

Beach family getaway

This property is stunning. We especially loved the spacious living area, large kitchen island, master suite on the upper floor with private balcony & coffee bar, and outdoor shower. In addition, communication with the owner was superb. We continued to notice so many thoughtful details throughout our stay which made us feel exceptionally welcomed and informed.

Perfect Place to Relax and Enjoy the Ocean

We visited this home for a four day golf and fishing trip! It was wonderfully decorated, clean, and the perfect set-up with the private upper bedroom within the upper loft area and the three other bedrooms (all good sizes) included one with bunk beds together for a larger group. The owner was very accommodating and a great communicator. Nags Head Golf Links was close by and a beautiful course with insanely amazing views of the water! I would suggest to any families or adults on an excursion that they rent this exquisite home, we also look forward to coming back...soon!
