“The room did the job - but numerous issues. Missing some basic necessities like a bedside light. Had to use the public wifi from the bar downstairs which was choppy at best. The problems started right from the beginning. Check in according to the website was 10:00pm. But at 8:30pm I had a message saying I wouldn't be able to check in after 9 as the bar shuts at that point. I was on a train so unable to get there for that time, and somebody very kindly stayed to let me in, but they still...

The rooms and areas were a bit tired looking and worn, for example the towels were scraggy, there was no where to hang a towel in the bathroom, the lock on the bathroom door was dodgy, but the hotel staff in all areas from reception to the spa and the bistro were extremely friendly and professional. “Really nice room. Cosy bar and restaurant. The Four out of five for the staff because they sat around us chatting whilst we were having breakfast. It felt a little like we were in the way of their conversation. Dined here on two evenings and one breakfast. Very good meals apart from a massively overpriced “cauliflower steak” - ordered out of curiosity but I should have asked first. It was just a roasted head of cauliflower… and not that big a one, either, but the price didn’t reflect...
