When we first moved into the property, it smelled so badly and was awful to walk into. That was just the start of my cleaning, non-stop, to try to make things better. It did not work, as hard as I cleaned, and cleaned, and cleaned.The toilet was leaking and covering part of the bathroom floor with toilet water. When I informed the owner, we had been walking in toilet water for weeks, I was told that I was wrong. He eventually replaced the toilet. After three months, I found out I had been sleeping next to black mold behind the bed. When I told the owner I found mold behind the master bed, he said that I could go to the store and find special “paint to cover it up.” Due to the mold, I developed breathing problems and had to be taken to the emergency room in the early morning of September 4th. The doctor and all the nurses said that it was black mold and to get out. We moved out of the back bedroom immediately. We finally found a new rental and moved out on September 8th, 2025.I am still trying to get my money back from the owner for the two months I paid for ahead of time. VRBO has told me that the host does not have to reimburse the two months I did not stay at the property, because I did not find the black mold within 12-hours of the first day of my reservation, which I’ve learned is stated in all VRBO contracts.Nobody should have to live in a house with black mold, it is a serious problem.
